Yes, that's right, the Trial of Ian. This is what has come from the New Year's ball. let me back track a little.
New Year's eve, the Gambino Mansion in Durem opened to all. G-Team was there getting sloshed, there was a line to get in and Sasha and Moira were waiting around anxiously. Ian came of course, along with Rufus, but Rufus was denied entrance and Ian reacted rather violently by smashing the butler Geebus' face into the floor. The countdown followed, The Masque swung in, revealed himself to Sasha as yes, Gino, and they shared their kiss. Seconds later, Ian was hauled away by the police, on charge of arson at the Gambino Island Gambino mansion. Bollocks to that.
Now, Ian is to recieve his fair and speedy trial. I'm currently undecided on the issue. On the one hand, I am very loyal to Ian, and I believe he is a good person. However, I can see that there is evidence against him. He is knowns to bear a grudge against the Gambino family as a whole, and also against Gino himself. He was unwilling to aid Gino when he was found, regardless of his life, because of jelousy and grudge. Also he was present on the night of the fire. No concrete proof has been presented other than this so far. As his defendant mentioned today, he may have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Speaking of his defendant, that is another thing about this trial that I'm undecided about. Our court systems are apparently presided over by Bots. I'll quote the descriptions given of the judge, defendant and prosecution:
Quote: Today, the residing judge is none other than JudgeBot 502X. He has a long history of unbiased decision making most likey due to his extensive programming. The prosecution is represented by ProsecutionBot 508Z. He has a longtime conviction rate of 97%. I hear he was programmed with human-like emotions giving himself insight into how humans will react to testimonies. As for the defense, that role will be taken by DefenseBot 513A. This is DefenseBot 513A's first trial. In fact, DefenseBot 513A just rolled off of the assembly line this morning. It will be interesting to see how he fairs against the PBot 508Z.
The judge does not particularly concern me. What does is the defendant versus the procesution. Is that wise, to put a brand new and still clanking Bot up against a highly sucessful, experienced one? On the one hand, the DefenceBot could be an advantage, programed with the latest technology and up to date on the law. On the other hand, he clanks regularly in his speaches, which are akward to begin with. He uses very robotic language, in comparison to ProcesutionBot who has learned how to speak as humans do. Also, who's to say the DefenceBot isn't rigged? Fresh off the rack, but from what factory and assigned by who?
This whole tiral has me both excited and on edge. We have yet to see how the bots will really perform, though they brought up their first witness today, Ruby. That's one of the reasons I'm excieted about this trial. I've always wanted to know more about the various shopkeeps around Gaia, and about Ian himself, and this is a wonderful oportunity. Ruby stated today that she has known Ian since they were kids, that he is a very nice person, though a little spastic, who wouldn't intentionally harm anyone. She trusts him to babysit Peyo and the two get along well. She said that he originally ran Gambino Boutique, now the location of the Hat Rack. His parents had turned it over to him, when something came up in the documents stating that the land actually belonged to the Island, and not to an individual. Johnny Gambino siezed the shop and Ian was forced to move the buisness to Barton. I'd say that's reason enough to bear a grudge.
I egarly anticipate the next portion of the trial. I wonder who the next witness will be... maybe Meredth? She works at the bank and witnessed the fire, so that's possible. If Gino or Sasha are called, they'll probablt be brought up last, for more dramtic effect. I think it would be fabulous if all the shopkeeps could be brought forth. People and their inter-relationships facinate me, so I'm curious to know what everyone thinks of Ian. In anycase, I'll keep things posted.
