Many solar systems fill the area we know as space. Scientists can't tell us how many there are exactly, and we may never know, but above the solar system where Earth lies is one that holds some significance to me. It's not even the solar system that holds my interest, but a planet only the second one from the edge. This is a place of fiction to many who may've caught word of it, but it is real to me.
The planet isn't big compared to some of the ones we see, but its size is about that of Earth's only slightly smaller. The geographical surface is nothing alike, however. Our planet, that of Earth and Gaia, is about 70% water with 30% land. This planet is practically the opposite, though they track it differently. 30% water, 40% desert, 13% forests, 14% growing area, 3% swamps and other areas. All in all, a much harsher place to live, especially being so far away from their own 'Sun'. The water currents are harsher as well, for two moons govern the waters, ripping them apart and causing chaos anywhere these pools may lay. Needless to say, hardly any fish can survive in the oceans, streams, and lakes. The entire planet isn't nightmarish, however.
The inhabitants have learned to cope with their problems and the harsh terrain and cold. These inhabitants are nekos -humaniod but with the ears and tail of a cat. Even I don't know how they came to live on such a dangerous planet, but it may be good that they made it there instead of us. Humans couldn't survive; we'd be crushed, frozen, and blinded; easy targets for the beasts of the planet. Of course only nekos wouldn't live there! There are animals there just like there are animals here. I suppose I must explain what I mean by "crushed", "frozen", and "blinded". I'll start in the order I spoke of them.
The atmosphere and gravity of the planet are much stronger. If a human were to come directly from Earth and attempt to walk, their spine would probably be fractured; not quite broken. After all, the conditions aren't completely evil. The damage done to the bones and nerves of the human would probably leave that poor soul crippled for life. The limberability of the nekos helps protect them from the extra weight, but most hardly notice it. A large percentage of the planet -up to 80% depending on the current ruler- will never leave and will spend their lives there, working through the gravity just as easily as humans do with their own gravity.
Now, for being frozen, that's very simple. As I said, the planet is the second from the edge that separates their solar system and our's; much like our Neptune only closer to the edge. Now, Neptune is pretty cold, from what I've heard. Humans would easily freeze on Neptune, and it's closer to our Sun. Think if a human were to be on this planet? They would freeze, plain and simple. The nekos are accustomed to the cold, just like the gravity, but they also have some fur. Mind you, it isn't much since they only have the ears and tail of a cat, but it is more than we humans have, thus keeping them warmer. Now, their genetics helps some, as well. Some families have thicker tails which they can wrap around themselves if they are allowed -it all depends on what work they must do.
The last bit I promised to explain was the being blinded part. This is also very simple. Being far from their 'Sun', they have less light and shorter days. However, their nights are much longer. Having two moons does help with how dark it can become at night, but the moons aren't always there, just like our's isn't always there, either. The moons go through phases, one normally trailing just behind the other. I suppose I'll explain the moons while I'm on the subject. They are also larger than our moon, but the colors are far differnt. One is a deep red, almost like blood. It is the larger moon and its phases are slower so it can be seen in the sky longer. The second moon is a very pale yellow and is made of a strange type of rock that makes the color hard to name. It's whitish yellow that can have a ring that glows yellow and blue at the same time without turning into green. Now, I am not saying it has rings like Jupiter. Most certainly not, it is far too small to have such things. On foggy nights here on Earth, we see a ring around our moon, don't we? That's the type of ring I'm speaking of. No one really knows, except a few top scientists, but-- Oh, I'm getting ahead of myself. Back to being blinded. I have already explained about how dark it is, and how human eyes would be rendered blind in the darkness, but now to explain how the nekos are fine. Like our domestic and wild cats on Earth, their eyes have a way to see in the dark. Now, I'm not a scientist or even overly smart, so I can't explain how exactly that works, but it works just the same for the nekos as it does for our cats. That's all there is to it.
I guess many will want an explaination of what I spoke of with the second and smaller moon, but that's a secret. You humans aren't part of our scientists, and you are not ranked high enough to be included in this discussion. However, this is a special, isn't it? If you've read this far, maybe you are special enough to hear about it...Sadly, I don't wish to spoil the surprise! If the people of this planet don't exactly know, why should you aliens? I'll compensate with you, though. I've spoken so much this entire time and you still don't know the name of this planet! That's very simple, and I'm sure I'll get laughed at for it, but the planet is named "Kit-Kat". Go on, laugh. It is not our fault you people named a candy bar after us and think you're being original. But now I've reached another unknown that I must confess. I don't know who had their planet first. Perhaps humans did have Earth first, but maybe it was those of Kit-Kat. The history of Kit-Kat is rather scattered and only commoners are really taught it; no one else cares. More important things must be done on the planet by the officials than study about what happened in the past.
Now, these rulers I spoke of long ago. It is a lot like the empires that used to cover the Earth in places like China, Japan, Greece, and Rome. Oh, I must apologize very quickly. As I once said, I'm not very smart and my memory is beyond horrible, so my Earthen history may be wrong. I do apologize. I have tried to learn it. But back to my lesson on Kit-Kat! The empires of Kit-Kat were not over a single area. There aren't even countries on the planet. The Emperor or Empress rule over the entire planet and any rule they make is law for their ruling. Now, like with the oriental empires -I know them the best because they interest me the most- the leadership role is passed down through the family from heir to heir. Gender does not matter when it comes to leading, however there will only be one ruler. Should the Prince or Emperor -for you do not have to marry to get the title- marry a woman, she will be named "Empress", but it is only a title. She will have far less power than her husband who was born as the ruler. The same goes for any Princess or Empress who has royal blood.
Sadly, all things must come to an end. There have been horrible leaders and bloodlines in the past who have ruled. Should the people not like whoever rules over them, there will be a revolt. A group -or in some cases, the entire planet- will attack the Palace -which is located in the largest desert on the planet- and slaughter the entire royal family, their guards, and anyone else who was loyal to that family. It is merely a precaution to make sure they do not try to regain power later on. Whoever began the revolt will be crowned the new ruler and their family will be considered "royal". If there was a group, however, that group will fight until only one stands or they will reach some type of agreement that names only one person and their family as the new rulers. Should they do a poor job, they will be revolted against, and their entire family, guard, and followers will be killed like the family before them.
There is a fictitious rule that resounds throughout the ruling family. If you are the Emperor and/or Empress, you do not have multiple children. Most rulers have one child who is immediately named the heir -gender doesn't matter so they rarely say "heiress". In the past, more than one child has been born and one has killed the other(s) -depending on how many others there were. Since one royal died, all had to die and a new regime began. In another case, one child formed a group and killed the rest of their own family making them the immediate Emperor or Empress. Records have never been kept very well, plus I simply do not read them. As I said, only the commoners deal with learning the actual history. There are other rules for the royals, though.
Should the current Emperor and/or Empress have a child, that child is to be raised away from commoners and must never be taught the history and ruling styles of past rulers. This is to prevent events from repeating themselves. If the child had a dark heart, and they had learned the tactics of one of the more vicious and cunning rulers, they would conquer everything and become too powerful to defeat; that should never happen. Even if they were taught the ways of the kinder rulers, it simply doesn't matter. It's not worth it in the end. If the heir isn't able to rule the planet on their own, their line isn't worthy of ruling, and they must be eliminated. There is no room for "newbz" when the lives of trillions hangs in the balance.
Now, perhaps you have some worthy questions that could be worth my time that you would like for me to answer? Well, even if you don't, I have a few questions that might help jumpstart your brain. Maybe something along the lines of:
Who are you?
How do you relate to all this?
Of course, if you have questions of your own, go ahead and ask them. I'm always curious and completely ready to hear and answer anything that I can. It is my job as your guide through a world you never knew existed. How about this? I'll answer the questions I wrote down. That may be fun.
I am someone very familiar with the past and future of this world I have told you of, the world of Kit-Kat. I won't say whether I've been there or not. I may not have even come from the place. I might've simply heard all this from word of mouth or simply caught it off the vine. And the way I relate... Well, I'll just let you wait to find out wink
