Sora breathed in slowly as the wheels under his feet carried him closer and closer to the island. As he moved, the boy stretched is thin arms above his head, letting out a yawn. Well…that’s what he got for sleeping in. It felt like it would take forever for his sleepy body to really wake up. It was a good thing he was back home. Unlike when he was traveling back and forth from world to world, he could actually rest and let his guard down here, or at least as much as possible, anyway. After so long of endless fighting, having your guard up came to be a natural state, something you didn’t even think about. Sora didn’t let it bother him, though. The way he looked at it, sense he was always ready for anything, he could protect his friends. And it’s not like it got in the way of having fun. Heck no.
Sora smiled to himself. That’s what life was, here on the islands. It was…fun. Just plain old fun.
The brunette shook his head, feeling somewhat defeated, and even a little guilty. Why did that sound like such a negative thing in his mind? Peace and quiet and fun were good things, weren’t they? He should have been satisfied, right? It wasn’t like he was bored or anything. Life back on the island was great. It felt incredibly selfish to complain about something so good. Maybe Sora just missed the excitement and the adrenaline he’d get when fighting heartless. Or maybe it was that life on the islands were predictable. Or maybe…
Alas, this was the core of the feeling that had been bothering him. He didn’t know what it was at all. It was just there, nagging at him like an annoying little bunny chewing on your leg or something. And that wouldn’t be fun, no would it? Not that Sora could imagine a bunny eating him or anything. That would just be odd… He couldn’t help but laugh at the sudden mental image of Rabbit from 100 Acre Woods trying to eat him. Poor guy. He gets so much trouble all the time…
This would be how Sora solved his problems usually. Deep thinking wasn’t his thing. Randomly coming up with unlikely event that have nothing to do with the problem? Yeah, it didn’t help either. But it sure made for a good laugh sometimes. it wasn’t like Sora was really that deep of a thinker, anyway. So there would be no deciphering it, either. Such a bother. Sighing again, Sora just shook it off. Oh well. At the moment, there wasn’t anything he could have done about bad feelings or things he didn‘t understand. All he could do was enjoy his nice, and hopefully long, vacation from fighting. The sun, the sand, and the beach. It was really all a guy like Sora could ask for. He should be enjoying it, right?!
He laughed a little to himself. Of course that was right.
Just about that moment, Sora someone call his name from below, down at the beach. There really was no need to even check and see who it was. Wakka, Tidus, and Selphie probably wouldn’t be going to the island today. And Riku definitely wasn’t a girl. Not that all that thought and elimination when on in the boys mind. That’d have taken too long. He waved his hand high over his head to Kairi, motioning the skate board down the hill. He hopped off before the wheels hit the sand, knowing full well that wheels like that and little tiny pieces of sand don’t mix. In all honesty, the graceful Keybearer found that out the hard way. With lots of people watching, too.
“Hey, Kairi.” He smiled warmly and walked up to her after setting his skate board out of the way of anyone else who might pass. There really wasn’t any need to bring it with him to the island, and Sora doubted anyone would take it. He looked at his friend happily. “You ready to head over to the Island?”
For a minute, he thought about asking Kairi if she’d seen Riku that morning, but knowing the silverette, he’d show up sooner or later. Knowing Riku, he’d only make fun of the two for being lazy or slow if they waited for him, anyway. They might as well try and beat him to the island, right? (Of course, poor Sora always sets himself up for disappointment, now doesn’t he?) Walking over to the a little bit of a bigger boat than their usual ones, Sora waited for Kairi, holding his hand out to her. “Careful.” He said with his usual smile.
