It was a good thing Avery found Bastion when she did, because he was getting ready to give up on the hunt for her for a little while. Though he was more than eager -for reasons even he couldn’t fathom - to see how she preformed should she accept his offer, there were other things he needed to attend to. It wasn’t wise of him to waste too much time searching for the woman - not to mention it just felt strange, roaming the keep looking for a woman. Though it was technically flight business, it wasn’t something he was used to and it felt, to him, almost like a social visit. Bastion didn’t do…social. Pretty much everyone knew that. Nor did he usually stick his neck out for ambitious novices who suddenly take it upon themselves to try out for one of the biggest and most important roles in their society. He didn’t usually…do this. Still, he’d seen skill in the way Avery moved, and she was determined in a way that only soldiers could be. He’d seen it in her eyes, and he wanted to understand where that drive had come from. Shardae had spent most of his life being consoled by the Raven after all - it would be a curious thing to find that he’d had a secret look out this whole time without anyone knowing it.
Though, that really was more fantastic than reality would allow. Avery was not some secret soldier sent from wherever to look after their Tuuli Thea. Bastion wasn’t so paranoid to think that everyone was out to get the man….just most people. One can’t blame him for worrying or being paranoid. It was the Captain’s job, after all.
The young woman eagerly apologized for involving him in what happened earlier, and were he unrestrained, he would have sighed. It was…a little annoying to be mislead, but something good might possibly come from it, so Bastion was more than willing to overlook it, as long as Avery proved to be serious and able in the tasks that he gave her, if she were to accept, anyway. After having basically made a fool of herself in front of the rest of the flight, who knew what she would have thought of them all now. Not that anyone would ridicule her for it. Petty behavior like that wasn’t something Bastion tolerated among his men. They weren’t juvenile children playing soldier in a school yard, after all. As a man, Bastion was gentle enough and most obviously quite. However, as a flight leader, while still quite the majority of the time, he was a demanding Captain and didn’t tolerate any kind of foolishness that he was able to prevent by any means necessary. If they weren’t serious, people died. Queens (or Kings) died.
Which was why Bastion was so interested in trying Avery out as one of his soldiers. As he’d previously brought up with Shardae, the woman didn’t have the innate need to kill or run away from Serpiente that practiced soldiers did. She’d proven that when she’d spent time with the two foreign women completely alone. Not only had Avery come out unscathed, but the Diente and her guard even went so far so to defend her earlier. Though…whether or not that was out of an honest attempt to defend Avery or because they simply wanted to get a rise out of Shardae, he wasn’t sure. Either way, it was good enough reason to think about. Avery had a generally soothing presence that served to calm even the Tuuli Thea down. She was good for at least something. Bastion wanted that calming effect around for the young King when he would no doubt be placed into more new situations than Bastion thought he would be ready for. Not that…Bastion would ever say that out loud, especially to Shardae himself. Willing to speak his opinions on important matters - yes, Bastion was willing. To insult the Tuuli Thea when being out spoken wasn’t necessary? Not on his life.
