We were out of mayo. So I said it was no problem, I could make some. It's really just egg yolks and oil. Looked up a recipe, put in all the ingredients, and used the electric mixer.
But...
you're supposed to drop the oil in drop by drop, not all at once
and...
the egg whites are definitely not supposed to be in there...the mixture thickened a little but stayed soupy and yellow.
Lo and behold, it was Hollandaise sauce! And Lo, it was good as a dip.
