Wikipedia definition: Generally speaking, a term from the ancient Roman calendar. The Ides fell on the 15th day of March, May, July, or October or the 13th day of any other month.[1] Thus the Ides of March was the 15th day of March.
Ides had real meaning only in the Roman Calendar, which had just been displaced by the Julian Calendar. However, the term "Ides" was still used in a vernacular sense for centuries afterwards to denote the middle of the month.
Specifically, the term is best known because Julius Caesar was assassinated on the Ides of March in 44 BC.
Fortunatly for me, my ides this year wasn't as graphic as Caesar's, but i ended up seeing blood all the same. Where to begin... oh yes, the begining. duh. This whole week had been rather strange for me in ohio. Monday, there was a small underground earthquake that shook up my neighbor hood. It was only a 3.6 on the rhictor scale, but still it almost felt as if a truck had lightly run into the side of my house. rather odd, too, for nothing ever that large has ever hit the lake side that hard. We're far away from any continental plates, but i guess anything is possible on this earth. Tuesday it was actually somewhat nice out, for the fact that about 2pm it got into 70 degrees F, which never happens in March. Quite the opposite really in that we usually still have a half of a foot of snow still on the ground around this time... Wednesday, was indeed windy, for a tornado was spotted north of where i lived, but thankfully no one was hurt. and today, Thursday of coarse, The Ides, the day in Roman history which in marked the assassination of Iuluious Caesar. *tear - but the way, I are pronounced like Js in latin...* yeah, i figured something bad would happen today with the weather. It did, in fact snow, but it turned out that it was hardly the least of my worries yet to come. My day went generally well, for the most part; i studied, half failed on a quiz, and celebrated a belated white day in my japanese class. Physics, we went through Newtons laws again, and i relearned from experience that an object in motion stays in motion until acted upon by another force.
Gym: or Cycling/Badminton/Archery, in it's technical term. This week had been set aside for testing for the underclassmen this year, so the each of my 12 periods had been cut in half every day to fit in 22 minute classes. Anyone whom didn't need to take the test could come in with a late arrival, but seeing how i live a crossed town, and my mom worked, i had no way of getting to school other then taking the bus at 7 oclock in the morning like always >< ... o yeah, were was i? o yeah, so the periods were shorter, and in doing so, we wouldn't have enough time to set up the bowing equipment like we normally do right? SOOOOOO my teacher decided if it'd be a good idea to bring out the rackets this week. ehe... not the best of ideas. Let's just say both me and my partner went for the birdie at the same time and i got side swiped a crossed the bridge of my nose. At first I thought it had knocked straight a crossed my eye, for when I gripped it and started to lean over, the red flow-y stuff started spewing out. not fun. you never seem to think about how much blood is in the face. the nose for that matter as well. My ex-boyfriend saw it happen, and he came to my side to see if I was alright. Unfortunately though, he was squeamish and wound up racing off to the restrooms when he saw the blood. x3 it made me laugh a bit, but once i felt the blood streaming out of my nose and not from my eye i was a bit more concerned about cutting off the flow then worrying about the other's though. xD i found it a bit funny that my nose almost went numb within the first 30 minutes. to tell you the truth i don't know if my bridge is broken or not.... o hope not, for i'd rather walk away from this without a crocked noose thank you very much.
My partners racket though had been bent from the contact, nearly at a 45 degree angle xD this made me laugh at least, though i still have a headache.
My short 17 year old life flashed before my eyes but it made me realize something: - well two things actually. Life's too short to worry about trivial things such as pain or suffering, and it just another thing we all have to go through. that, and also a wound doesn't hurt as much if you try to take your mind off of it. also, advil = the oppium of god ^w^ ... not really, but i'm sure thankful that the mirgane i'll get from this won't come until tomorrow morning and the meds have worn off.
if only the cut were a bit cleaner, deeper, and a bit longer... I'd look like squall from FF8 >/< mwahaha. o well. it's better to laugh at life then cry about it.
