Capt. Deep swam towards the rock formation with a rope in her mouth. Will saw the rope was tied to the ship, and he realized what she was trying to do. She would tie the rope to the ship, and the rocks would hold the ship in place; he just hoped it would work.
Capt. Deep climbed up the rock, stumbling and slipping she made her way to the top, where she knelt down and slid the ring she had already tied in it around the rock until it wouldn’t go any further down the rock. She tugged on the rope, and she assumed it was sturdy enough.
She had to get back to her ship quickly, so instead of shimmying down the rock she dove from the peak of it, and into the water. It was a 20 foot dive and Capt. Deep went a decent 5 feet under the surface of the water. She swam as far and as hard as she could and came up to her ship.
She pulled herself on board, coughed, and ran around trying to take control of the situation. “You, try to get up to the crows nest and see how wide the whirlpool is!” She barked out orders to her crew.
Capt. Deep found Will clinging to the stair railing. “Rina, what’s going on?” Will cried.
“I don’t know, but we’re going to get out.” Capt. Deep assured.
“What if the rope snaps? Then we’re going down to Davy Jones.” Will said.
“It won’t snap, don’t worry, we’re going to make it out of here together and all in one piece.” Capt. Deep said.
At that moment a wave crashed into the ship, and Will lost his balance and fell overboard. Capt. Deep leapt into action and grabbed his wrist. Will looked up at her, with tears in his eyes. Water splashed onto his boots, and his hair came out of its small ponytail, and his blue eyes were full of fear.
“Hang on Will, I’ll get you up!” Capt. Deep said, but she knew it was easier said than done. She was weak after her swim in strong currents and running around deck was work, especially when one is trying to remain on their feet.
Will held on, but Capt. Deep could feel him begin to slip. Charlie slid down the rope taking him up to the crows nest. He held on tightly but not tight enough that it burnt his hands. He saw Capt. Deep and Will hanging on to each other, and wanted to help his captain and his friend. He called Dojer over to help him, and the two first mates rushed over to Capt. Deep. “What can we do to help?” Charlie asked, glancing back and forth between Capt. Deep and Will.
“I’ve got a plan, but you’ll need to alert both crews.” Capt. Deep said.
Capt. Deep turned her head over her shoulder and talked with both of the crewmates. A life ring was put in her mouth, and she spat it back onto the deck and shouted her instructions. She nodded as a moment passed while the crew got ready. She looked back at Will. “Are you ready to get wet?” She asked, smiling.
Will was puzzled. “What?”
“I’m going to jump over the side and stay with you. The crew is going to throw out the life ring, and with both of our crews pulling they can lift us out of the water!” Capt. Deep said.
“What if we don’t make it? Rina, I just couldn’t bear it if you died along with me. Let me go and then they can just get me.” Will said.
“No, if you die, I want to be there with you.” Capt. Deep said, and she jumped over the edge, and into the water, Will holding on to her desperately.
