Today is my birthday.
We stopped at the market after I got off school and my dad picked up lamb chops and when we got home I cut up the vegetables and put them in the steamer and he fried up the chops.
After dinner I got a cake, but we got a phone call while he was lighting the candles so I lit them and carried the cake in. It was a chocolate butter cream cake I had picked up at the grocery store yesterday.
For birthday loot I got two pairs of jeans, two shirts, a package of four knickers, two packages of pencils, decent ones, and that package of graph paper I needed for school. I also got a twenty dollar bill from my Da which he told me to spend at the second hand book stall in the market. I had some birthday money earlier from my aunt but I gave it away to the Chicken Noodle Soup Club.
My sister gave me an item from my Gaia wish list.
My brother didn't give me anything, but he might install millinaire for me later. And he did go out and buy a package of cake mix and a tub of icing to bake a cake for me using his own money, not knowing I was going to bring a cake home yesterday.
It was a very good birthday.
My da got upset from the phone call and he started making racist jokes at the table as we were eating our cake. I hate it when he does that, but I also know that it was because he was upset. It was because he found out someone he knew had died. I don't think he knew the guy very well, but that is still quite enough reason to be somewhat off-balance. He was being too funny, without being funny at all. Trying to be funny and laughing at his own jokes because he didn't want to think about what was in the back of his head.
I asked him afterwards if he was upset and first he said no, he was just tired and then he said yeh, he was upset.
There is one piece of butter cream cake left, or two if the people aren't greedy.
I still have to wash the frying pan from the chops before I can go to bed.
The absolute funnest part of my birthday was in the early afternoon when I was at school and it was raining and blowing really hard and the window way above us blew out and came rumbling and crashing down and hit the glass in the lobby and broke it. None of the glass got inside but it made a fine din and the glass was all skipping around on the concrete outside. And I got sent running out the front doors to make sure nobody would go out and there were a couple of kids who had been smoking there, very luckily on the side that the glass didn't fall and they decided they didn't want to be smoking outside right there anymore and kind of took off hunched looking up over their shoulders in case some more chunks of building would come down.
I went and looked after school and I couldn't even see what window had come up, but I could see where it had knocked a chunk of concrete off coming down, a chunk probably about the size of my head. So that was interesting and enlivening.
OMG, it is after midnight.
