Chapter 2: Lost in chaos, at home in sanity
The world was black again and all that were left were my thoughts... "Keo" they called out again... why am I so important to them? "Keo" I am gone and lost in oblivion and yet they still continue to call out, "Keo" the voices of angels call me home and who am I to not answer that call...
The world slowly gains feeling again and at first everything seemed to be calm but I could feel that we were still in the wake of thunder. Colors came back and those same grey blure passed before my eyes and as they formed and the lines stop smearing I could see Sheanna standing over me her eyes filled with worry and as my eyes brightened to see hers so did hers for a moment our two eyes were happy to see eachother okay but then the hammer fell again...
Like a deafening roar it hit tearing through the solid concrete walls of the building turning them to rubble and dust as the crack of thunder echoed through my ears. Sheanna handed me my rifle and helped me up and then I noticed it... I couldnt hear... her mouth moved wordlessly and the world was silent. She pointed to a side door and as she gestured slightly I could barely understand what she was saying. flank them as she used that hand gesture to symbolise not a military signal but a personal habit while she talked. I nodded and she turned to the rest of the squad as they ducked behind cover and yelled to them while putting her fist up then pointing out of the window. That actually was a military sign for "cover fire" I ran out the door to the side alleyway as they leaned out of cover firing blindly at the oncoming threat. As I ran through the streets rifle gripped hard in hand I noticed that I didnt have a clue as to what we were fighting. If it was a tank or panzerschreck squad, if it was protected by troops or alone. This was a true blind jump but I had to make it to save my squad. I came to a turn and hugged the wall peeking barely around the corner and then like titans leg from the sky a large metal stump fell to the ground making the earth shake and the dust stir up from the street. I looked up in awestricken wonder at a behemoth that's body was held aloft by six large legs. The beasts carriage scraped the building top barely and another one of it's leg came down in a building the pointed foot like a wedge came down heavily through all the floors and hit the solid ground with a shaking that brought me down.
I quickly stood up and looked at the leg near me surveying it closely knowing that I didnt have enough time. I say a set of hand and foot holes in the outer armor probably a service latter for the beast and I ran to it quickly as the pistons and gears hissed as it began to rise. I slung my rifle around my back and jumped for a hand hold and right as my hands curled into the hole the entire strut rose up quickly from the ground up next to the body and it turned at it's hinge about to go down. If I was still on when it shot down my body would be shattered from the fall. I looked frantically for a place to jump then I saw a gap in the armor. I brought a foot up against the leg and kicked off from it falling through the air and grabbed onto the space. My fingers ached and blood flowed down my arm from were the metal cut into my skin but I drowned it out and hoisted myself up onto the top of the body. I looked around quickly and then the head on the end of the body swiveled and fired a long cannon that protruded from it's mouth probably at the building that my squad was hiding out in. I didnt know if I'd already have failed them but if so I could probably still avenge them. I ran along the back of the beast to what looked like a large exhaust pipe that billowed with black smoke. I pulled a grenade from my belt, pulling it's pin and it just barely fit into the narrow pipe going down deep into the bowels of the beast. I clumsily ran for the edge and stopped at it looking at the gap to the nearest building. I couldnt possibly make it across and would probably fall to my death.
Deep inside the beast there was a muffled roar then the body of the behemoth expanded then exploded sending me flying across the gap barley making it to the closest building top.
The metal giant had a gapping hole in it were black smoked spewed out and it fell to the earth the legs slipping from the ground and one flailed into the base of the building were I stood. The foundation gave and the entire thing came down smoke flying high into the air. I could only watch as I fell into the dust and the world became dark once again...
