Um...
Maro - A Path Not Chosen
"Just how many children from my future are going to visit me, anyway?" The blonde girl exclaimed with an exsasporated sigh. It wasn't just her own future offspring that came to see her from the future, either, or even total strangers from different planets or solar systems, even. It wasn't as if Usagi didn't love meeting new friends, but just once, she'd like to meet one that actually came from the same planet! Though really...did she even count as being from Earth? Well...she was born there, after all. Though, that was only after her former life as a Moon Princess. Man...this was confusing.

Pushing her own confusion aside, the high school graduate sat uncomfortably still, next to a woman who looked an awful lot like her with a few exceptions here and there. She had the same soft, blue eyes seen through thick dark lashes that Usagi had, though this woman's eyes carried a certain heaviness that even Sailor Moon couldn't claim to have ever carried. The girl was much slimmer than Usagi had ever been, but much taller at the same time, and had dark hair, instead of Usagi's signature golden locks. Unlike Chibi Usa or ChibiChibi, she did not adorn Usagi's famous odango hair style, either. Instead, it was short, just past her shoulders at the longest, and was pulled into a curly, twisty pony tail just behind her left ear. Usagi liked the hair style and was tempted to ask how it was done, but it hardly seemed like the proper time for girl talk at the moment. She also wore an oddly familiar hair peice just at the base of her pony tail - a golden five pointed star with small wings adorning each horizontal side - that Usagi couldn't help but be curious about. She'd seen that somewhere before...

"I'm not from the future." The girl said calmly in a quiet voice, almost as if she were speaking to herself. The two of them had run into each other three times now and not once had the girl seemed to actually want to talk. Usagi was never ignored by the mysterious woman named Maro, but she did usually have to fish for quite a while to ever get any sort of real conversation out of her. The woman's eyes were cast half-lidded to the ground thoughtfully as she spoke. Eye contact also seemed to be one of the talents the girl lacked. Usagi only sighed and shook her head, folding her hands behind her head lazily as they sat on the park bench, neither of them really interested in the fact that it was the middle of the night and rather chilly outside. There were no stars in the sky, and Usagi wondered if it was going to start raining soon.

"But you said that you were my daughter." She argued insistantly. Was this person just trying to make her understand everything less than she already did? Well, it wouldn't really be that difficult of a task given that fact that it was Usagi she was talking to, but still...

"I never said that." The dark haired girl insisted.

"You called me mother the first time we met! What else am I supposed to think that means?"

There was no answer. The woman cast her eyes even lower and looked as if she was sad about something. She didn't look at all comfortable just being around Usagi. "It's more complicated than that." She said. Her hands tightened in her lap and she just shook her head. The woman inhaled sharply and unsteadily as she suddenly stood up and took a few steps away from the park bench. Maro didn't look to sure about whether or not she should continue their conversation or just walk away before she got too angry or heated. Her discomfort made Usagi feel guilty. Had she done something to this girl in the future that made her angry, or even something in the present time? It would have helped if the girl would at least attempt to explain things a little more clearly. The blonde stood up and took hold of the other's hand, giving her a sad look while attempting to try and turn her around.

"Please try and explain, then. I'd like to understand why you dislike me so much, at least."

Both pairs of blue eyes met and Usagi smiled, hoping that she could at least melt the ice between them a little. That sadness in the other's blue hues, though...it seemed so familiar. Had she ever met someone else with sad blue eyes like that? They seemed awfully pretty, and the teenager knew that they would be even prettier if the strange girl would just smile. She remembered that, when ChibiUsa had first come to them from the Silver Millenium, she and the pink haired girl hadn't exactly gotten along to well, either. So, she'll be damned if she gave up on this one so easily.

The dark haired girl yanked her hand away violently, and looked Usagi with a sudden fire in her eyes, the anger so painfully obvious to the sweet blonde before her that Usagi had to take a step back. "I don't need to explain anything to you. And I don't...dislike you. I don't even know you. You're the one who wanted to talk anyway. You shouldn't ask so many questions of someone who doensn't feel like talking."

"Then why did you call me 'Mother', before? You can't blame me for misunderstanding." She said with a pleading smile upon her lips. Just what had made her angry all the sudden? Usagi didn't believe she'd said anything insulting.

The anger faded and Maro turned away from Usagi again, her shoulders slumping into a tired, defeated pose. From behind, Usagi could hear a cynical 'hmph' come from the girl's lips. "Stupid Odango." She said dryly without turning around. Usagi drew in her breath painfully as the insult reached her ears. Just what was this girl's problem? And just where did she get off calling her 'Odango', anyway? There were only two people who Usagi ever allowed to do that! First was Mamo-chan and the other was Seiya!

...Seiya. That was it! That's who Maro reminded Usagi of. There were similarities between herself and the dark haired Maro girl, but there were so many more between the new girl and Seiya. That didn't make any sense, though. How can this girl look so much like both Usagi and Seiya, too? Maro turned to face Usagi again but stayed silent. The looked the blonde up and down again, like she had done so many times before, and just shook her head in aggrivation. It was obvious that the girl wanted to say something, but chose not to. Seiya had always done the same thing before. So often he'd wanted to express his feelings for her, but chose to stay silent because of how Usagi still felt about Mamo-chan. Now, what was Maro keeping to herself?

"Do you know Seiya Kou?" Usagi asked finally as the first drops of rain began to decend to the Earth. Again, Maro didn't say anything back, though the pained look in her eyes and the subtle clenching of her fist was all the answer Usagi needed. "I don't understand at all. Why do you look like both Seiya and I? We never-" Usagi murmored.

Maro shrugged weakly and took a few more steps away from Usagi. "Like I said," she began as she walked, "it's complicated."

"Then uncomplicate it." Usagi demanded harshly. She want from feeling sorry for the girl to being annoyed almost instantly. After everything that's happened, the last thing the blonde wanted was more fighting and more complications to her life. As little as she wanted to admit it, she knew that when people showed up from the future or from another planet or another dimension, they always brought horrible enemies with them, or bad luck, or something terrible. Even if she didn't bring more hardship to Earth with her, Maro was still beating around the bush and was obviously trying to hide things from Usagi. After everything she had been through, the girl knew she deserved better. Though, none of that seemed to bother or even cross Maro's mind. The dark haired girl only laughed at Usagi.

"Fine." She said in the middle of a chuckle. Maro tilted her head to the side as she walked closer to Usagi slowly. "I am the result of the path not chosen. I shouldn't even exist, really, sense the future that I belong to will never happen. Not anymore."

Yeah. Usagi still didn't get it. Or maybe, she just told herself she didn't get it. Even with all the trouble she and Mamo-chan had been going through lately, she still didn't want to entertain the idea that she and Seiya would have ever... Usagi cared for Seiya, she really did. It was just...

"I never meant to meet you while I was here." Maro continued coldly. "I'm only here to find out why I still exist; why my reality didn't just fade from existance the moment you and Seiya Kou parted ways."

---------------------------------

Sooooo. Yeah. I'm a little bit obsessed with Seiya X Usagi right now. And this is what popped into my head today while I was babysitting. I just had to sit down and type it all out. I'm not usually the kind of person who likes to pair two characters together and then create a child for them. But Maro just sort of popped into my head as well, though it was while I was drawing instead of typing. So yeah. This happened, and I'm a bit ashamed cause it's not something I usually do. But, at the same time, I'm really happy with it anyway. It was easy to write. I obviously didn't take it too seriously, so I enjoyed it while I was writing it, instead of feeling like it was work that I didn't want to do.

So yeah. Seiya X Usagi = a guilty pleasure of mine. Get over it. >>

I quite liked it. :3 I'm a huge fan of Seiya and Usagi myself... I won't lie. I love the Sailor Stars. :'D THEY WERE AWESOME ON SO MANY LEVELS.

Very well written, and an interesting concept. I'd be interested in reading more if you put it up. :3
