I spent all of last night I wasn't at swim meet creating a CD for school and researching American Pie. You'd be shocked at the kinda things the song has to say, but one of the great things about the song (and apparently what McLean was trying for) is that no one is entirely sure what exactly the song means. Though, much speculation has ben made. However, even if there may be many different ideals for the song, it all (with the exception of fundamentalist Christians trying to say how it's about God) goes back to the plane crash and death of Buddy Holly, the day the music died in the first verse.
Anyway, sorry. I realize the majority of the population doesn't care, but American Pie is actually my favorite song.
