It was... hot. Why was everything so hot? Even the floor that I lay on felt warm, though it was always so cold. The bright light everywhere blinded me, and the smell of burning flesh was everywhere, but i didn't need to see to figure out what was going on. In fact, it was quite simple, really: the assassins had followed through on their promise to burn my family of royalty to the smallest of ashes.
I lifted my head drowsily as it throbbed with uncontrolable pain. I could make the outline of Gerard, my father's advisor, clothes and skin flaking off in the intense fire. I turned my head slightly and saw the terrified, frozen face of a maid forever burning and agonized, even in her painful death. All of the death, though frightful and made me want to scream aloud, seemed to not faze me as much as I thought it would.
I pushed myself off of the floor to try and make my escape from this scalding heat, but found no visible way. I thought to myself gravely, Am I really going to die? Now? Despite the fact that my father made the decisions, made the people suffer, made everyone miserable?
I began to cry, my tears evaporating into the flame as I crumpled back into my pathetic heap, weeping uncontrollably for my family or somebody to help me as the wall of flames, encasing me, began to close in in all directions.
But, as if out of nowhere, tall, lean men were seemingly putting out the fire, however, those clothes weren't recognizable, their dark robes that hid their agile movements. I watched them search the area around me, amazed, for one second I thought they were Gods, come to save me. I heard one call out to his colleagues with his silky voice, and I was certain that I was dead now, the Gods welcoming me to the afterlife.
Something grabbed my arm and jerked me up violently; a cry of shock escaped my lips.
"Th-the princess?" the rude man in a dark robe said, clearly stunned by me.
Then it hit me all at once, and i shamed myself for not realizing that these men were not Gods, but merely the barbarish assassins that had caused the death of my entire family...
