I forgot to keep track of the days. I'm trying to get around Gaia's economy, but the market is confusing. Gaians sure love their pets!

It is true! The Zurg, as the alien race is called, are indeed visitors from another world. I have obtained samples of their written communication and believe I might indeed be a considerable step forward from the Gaian's attempts to decode them. More later.

The researchers guild I talked about has accepted my application! I am so excited to meet fellow resea...
I was just writing this when my train of thought was interrupted by a newspaper boy outside the window of my office. "Extra! Extra!" he shouted, running along the street waving his ware, bumping into people. An incredible thing has occured! I am writing these lines in a hurry, eager to go out again and learn more about this strange phenomenon. I am not the only visitor who comes to Gaia from another world! A series of transports, of so far unknown origin, have appeared over the Fields of Barton. Are the pilots friendly? Hostile? Are they what we can regard as intelligent, or merely things, animals following a greater will? The Gaians seem to have acquired a few of those transports; I will head down to the blacksmith to analyze one of them later, if I am allowed to. If the stories are true, one might be able to travel over the borders of this land to other worlds in this word, exploring their universe! How positively amazing this prospect sounds!
More later - I must go tho the town hall now, in the hopes of finding out more while the news are still fresh.

I found a coat to match my hat and pants.
On my explorations of Gaia, there is little new. I just now tried to re-enter the din of the public meeting places, but it is hard to even hear my own thoughts there. I collected quite a bit of Bachelor's Degree credits and some Master's credits at the word game though. Also, I won a piece of furniture - a very comfortable looking sofa. Now if I was able to buy a house to put it in, I'd be happy - but as of yet, they are refusing a stranger like me. They probably know my credit is low, or they don't trust a stranger to erect a house in their town... and there did not seem to be any vacancies.
I will keep you updated on my strolls around Barton town, though. I just now hold in my hand a small slip of paper advertising a guild of researchers, it seems, or at least "learned people". I am curious what they will be able to tell me about Gaia! My reply to their contact advertisement is already on its way.

More on Gaians, and my wardrobe. |

Phew! That was hard and daring work - puzzles get so boring! - but I managed to scrounge together enough gold for a top hat! Shiny! I just had to have it, even though Mr. Wesley made it clear that his shop is usually accommodating more dignified customers. In any case, I managed to convince him that I had worked hard for it. I'm wondering what's next - maybe a tuxedo jacket or coat, to complete the "circus director" look, or something more daring? I saw that you can also dress up with tentacle costumes - I'll try to get together a set to look like The Eternal Sweeper for the next costume ball!
Speaking of costumes, I found a place where the Gaians can pretend to be someone else. How very delightful! There seems to be an awful lot of public meeting places like this one around - it is hard to find my way, I hardly know where to look first! What else to talk about? Oh, yes, the art gallery. Both painting and costume-making seem to be high in status for the Gaians, and there are vast galleries in which said artwork can be exhibited, discussed and even, to my great astonishment, judged. I will try to talk to the gallerists about putting up one or two of my own works - it would be interesting to see how the Gaian palate reacts to it.
Well then, off to a stroll in the gardens of Barton, showing off my shiny new hat...

I am starting to get interested in the population of this place. So far, I have not come in direct contact with many - the strange language and me being an obvious newcomer being barriers - but I have managed to extend my observations. First, they seem to be a night-active folk - maybe this is why they have so big eyes? The population of the town definitely seems higher in the evenings. Yesterday, I saw a girl sit under a tree in the dark, reading a book. (I asked if it was a good book, and it must have been since she was so captured by it she seemed oblivious to my questions). Their nightvision must definitely be better than mine. I also have found out what Moira uses the bugs for - she produces a kind of ink, possibly from their carapaces. I wonder what it is used for - after all, this journal here is written in light, not ink. Maybe to dye clothes?
More later.

Fourth day - Strolling around town at sunrise |

Sunrise over Barton town is so pretty! The colors get all pink and yellow. Beautiful! I wonder who of Gaia's citizens is storing all their coins under bushes, stones and in trees though. And everyone around is just taking it! Isn't that stealing? I tried to show Moira my bug collection, but she just laughs at me and says it's too few yet. How many of those things do I have to have buzzing around in my pockets? They tickle!
