I doubt this'll be very good since I haven't done this in so long, but hey.. It's 4:30 in the morning, so why not?
The Beginning
The blistering sun beat down on my head as if the very Heavens had a personal vendetta. The desert sands enveloped me feet while all I could do was push forward towards that ruined city of legend. Answers were followed by even more questions while questions I've kept for so long would remain with me through the turmoil.. It couldn't be helped. None of it could, not even the rubbery taste in my mouth from the lack of the life giving liquid we humans have all but taken for granted and it was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened.. The sunlight had disappeared along with anything else in sight as I landed face down in the soft sand, my body already exhausted from days of travel.. Perhaps this was a sign to give up a fruitless endeavor. And the funny thing is, I only started thinking about why I started this.. So, the dreams I had in those moments of rest were all to accompany me..
It was Spring. My village had just finished their annual festival to celebrate the joining of two of the most prominate citizens and all was well. I had a little too much to drink last night and all I could hear when my Mother swept open the blinds of my window were the church bells and the constant throbbing in my skull,
"Kei! .. Wake up, Kei! It's time to get up.. -laughs-, Looks like the festival should've been in your honor instead with how much you indulged."
Yeah.. That's right, my name is Kei. Kei Izuri. I was born and raised in this village which lay north of the Indica mountains. 24 years of age and without much motivation to leave this place, regardless of the constant peserting of my Mother and even the village elder. As my vision cleared, I sat up and stretched before climbing out of bed and putting on some clothes, today would probably be like any other day.. Or so I thought. Noone could expect it, but the entire village would change..
There were children outside playing, the paper ball they kicked around reminded me of my childhood, and this brought a smile to my lips while I leaned against the wall of my home and watched. The younger girls of the village blushed and whispered to their friends as they passed by, trying to conceal it but how obvious it was only made their blushing that much worse... And then I remembered that I was instructed to travel to a city today. Well, more like a kingdom. A message must be sent to their king regarding the lack of security our village was forced to deal with whenever bandits decided to pillage our food, drink and Women. Hopefully that would end soon.
Not long after, the elder came to me with a concerned expression,
"Kei.. Just remember, it is very dangerous on the path towards the kingdom. Many groups of bandits and murderers riddle the area between here and there.. Before you depart, please speak with me."
A brow raised as he turned and walked away, but my mother caught my attention as she called from within the house. Upon entering, I noticed the extensive ammount of supplies she had laid out on the large table in the dining room, a backpack almost bursting at the seams, two more smaller knapsacks with just as must bulk.. It seemed she was a little overzealous in her effort to keep me well prepared,
"I'm not going to need all of this, Mother.. Besides, if I'm being attacked, it'll only slow me down that much more."
"I know.. I just.. I don't want you to be without it.."
"I understand. But please, keep some of the stuff here with you, it may come in handy.. And the elder wants to speak with me, so I'm going to go there now."
I walked over and hugged my mother tightly before stepping outside and making my way down the beaten path which led to the elder's house, which was lavishly decorated with remnants of the fesitval and those that have passed, trophies of wild game he has hunted in the past and even personal belongings of marauders who had failed at their attempts to take control of our village. Before I even stepped to the door, heis voice echoed from within, beckoning me.. What he was about to tell me after I entered the house would forever change not only my life.. But the lives of every person in our village..
This is where my story begins. I'm telling you this only because I'd like for someone to know the truth about what happened to our village, and the entire Indica kingdom..
