It was a long day for Michael. His work was getting out of control. If his work kept raising his hours his grades would drop like leaves in the winter breeze. He was all but happy to get his raises every month just because customers liked his smile and attitude. But that is a lot coming from a McDonalds.
When his rent came he had no problem paying the bills because he was never there. The highest bill was his water. The smell of the fries lingered like a leach to his skin. When he finished showering he went to bed right away. No point of the lights being on if all he wanted was the darkness.
The only thing he really wanted in his life was a partner. The thought of coming home to a warm dinner a sweet kiss and someone to hold in his sleep that wasn’t a pillow was like ecstasy. His nights where short, his days were long. Seeing couples of all types walk by sharing a soda or a soft serve made him so happy. He was day dreaming about the perfect boy walking in and everything would be in slow motion. Just for the heck of it rainbows would appear in the distance.
Fingers snapped in his face, “Michael, wake up,” his boss ordered, “the ice machine is low, can you go fill it please?” he nodded and went into the storage room and took the bucket of ice to the soda machine. When he finished dumping the ice in and put the top back on the machine, he turned around and saw him. He smiled at him and asked, “Is the ice working?” Michael was so lost in his bright blue eyes and messy blonde hair that he made the biggest mistake by using a pick up line, not even knowing if he was gay or not, “it is now, but if you use it the all the ice may melt.” After he said that he regretted every word. The boy smiled and laughed. Michael hid his face in his hat and went in the break room. He was sweating and cursing to himself.
