My Evolving Avatar's Story:
1st Avi: “I'm So Happy!” (August 18, 2008 – August 19, 200 cool
A young angel lived in heaven happily with her pet moon rabbit, Usagi. All was well. As the big man said once before: “It was good.” Life was bright and shiny.

2nd Avi: Meeting the Imp (August 19, 2008 - August 20, 200 cool
Then one day, the angel happened upon a young Angel Imp, who had just come from the world below. Delighted, the angel listened in fascination as the young Imp described some of the things it had seen.
“I must see this world for myself,” she said to Usagi. After all, many of the other angels had gone back and forth between Heaven and Earth, so why not her?

3rd Avi: The Pathway to Another World (August 20, 2008 - August 21, 200 cool
The imp led the young angel and her pet to a stream of magnificent bright colors. Sparkling and glittering, it arched downwards into the clouds below. The angel instantly fell in love with it.
"That's a rainbow," the imp said. "It connects heaven and earth. Follow it down and you'll be able to see the world for yourself."
The angel was already further down than she had ever gone before, but she took a deep breath and started down the pathway.

4th Avi: Watch That First Step (August 21, 2008 - August 22, 200 cool
"WAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!" The angel screamed as she shot down to earth, only to land painfully in a bunch of bushes. Having never experienced pain before, she immediately fell unconscious. Usagi, who was able to float on his own, hovered anxiously as the imp checked her to make sure she was okay.
"Guess I should've warned her," the imp said sheepishly. "Rainbows tend to be slippery...." It stared at the unconscious angel for a moment and then looked up at Usagi. "Does she look a little different to you?" Usagi cocked his head at the imp, which shook its head. "I wish you could talk...."

5th Avi: I Don't Feel So Good (August 22, 2008 -August 24, 200 cool
Predictably, Usagi didn't answer the imp. Instead, both of their attentions were drawn to the angel, who was slowly regaining consciousness. She groaned, dizzy.
"Ugh, Usagi, I don't feel so good," she said. Concerned, Usagi offered the angel one of his mochi snacks. She waved it off, not feeling well enough to try and eat something. Slowly she shook her head to clear and looked around, still slightly dazed. "Is this--Usagi, are we on Earth??"
"Ah-hem," the little imp said. "Excuse me, ma'am, but is everything all right? You seem a bit off."
"I should think so," the angel said. "I've never fallen down a rainbow before!"
"NO, I mean besides all that," the imp said. "You seem... different somehow."
*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*
6th Avi: Look, Usagi! Flowers! (August 24, 2008 - August 26, 200 cool
The angel wasn't paying attention to the imp. Instead, she was looking around this new world she had fallen into, enraptured by the beauty and newness of it all. Gleefully, she found some brightly colored plants.
"Oh, look, Usagi!" she cried, grabbing some. "They're so pretty! And they smell nice too!"
"Those are called flowers," the imp sighed, realizing he wasn't going to be able to get through to her until she had explored a bit.
"Flowers," the angel repeated dreamily. "They're gorgeous. Why don't we have any of these in heaven?"
"Well, I expect it's because they need dirt to grow in," the imp replied off-hand.
"Dirt?"
"What you're standing on."
The angel looked down and lifted her leg a couple of times, trying to get a good look at the dirt. Then she realized something. "Oh dear!" she said to the flowers. "I took you away from your growing place! I'm sorry. Here, let me put you back."
"That won't help," the imp said as the angel attempted to put the flowers she had picked back into the ground. "They're already dead." The angel froze.
"What?"
*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*
7th Avi: What Have I Done? (August 26, 2008 - August 27, 200 cool
"Well, I guess they're not truly dead," the imp said quickly. "They can still live for a bit longer, especially if you put them in water--"
"I KILLED THEM???" the angel cried, horrified.
"Essentially, yes," the imp admitted. "But they're flowers, they would've eventually died anyways--what on earth is wrong with you?!?!"
*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*
8th Avi: Changing (August 27, 2008 - August 29, 200 cool
The angel stopped sobbing and wiped her tears. "I'm crying because I've killed something. Is that so hard to understand?"
"No! Not that!! Your wings! You've been changing ever since we got here!" the imp cried.
"What about my wings?" the angel asked. She reached behind her, only to find nothing but air where feathers had used to be. "Oh my! What happened to the wings on my back?"
"Your halo is gone too," the imp said slowly, gulping. "Oh, I am going to get in so much trouble for this... I'm outta here!!"
"Wait!" the angel cried after it. "Usagi, quick! You've got to help me! I can't get back into heaven without my wings and halo! Usagi?" But behind her, the moon rabbit was feeling the effects of Earth as well.

9th Avi: Usagi? What's Wrong? (August 29, 2008 - August 31, 200 cool
The angel spun around and just stared at her friend and pet. Usagi was glowing with a strange light, and appeared to be spinning. The imp was immediately completely forgotten.
"Usagi?" the angel tried softly. "Usagi, what's wrong? What's happening to you?!?!"
A flash of white filled the area.

10th Avi: The Effects of Earth on Moon Rabbits (August 31, 2008 - September 2, 200 cool
Both the angel and Usagi blinked as they were slowly able to see again after the white flash. The angel looked up to where Usagi had been floating before, but saw nothing there. Then she heard a rustling in the grass in front of her and instinctively looked down. And gasped.
There was Usagi, but it was not the moon-rabbit she had known for years now. Sure, the poor bunny was still white, but now had no wings, no magic. Usagi had been turned into a normal rabbit.
"Oh no," the angel whispered. She now recalled why Earth had been off-limits for both her kind and Usagi's. Upon setting foot on the planet, they would lose their powers until they became the closest species to their own that was already on Earth. For moon rabbits, the closest species was obviously rabbits. "Oh, Usagi, I'm so sorry!" the angel moaned. "I completely forgot about that!"
Usagi turned to look at her for a moment. The angel was slightly taken aback by the distant look in her friend's eyes.
"Usagi?"
Without a word or any indication that it could hear or understand her, the little white bunny hopped away into the underbush.

11th Avi: Again, Not Feeling Good (September 2, 2008 - September 4, 200 cool
"Usagi, wait!" the angel cried. "Come back, please!"
But the bunny didn't come back.
Now completely alone and friendless, the angel looked around her as she felt a faint ringing in her ears. "Hello?" she called. Suddenly, the Earth seemed to tilt out from underneath her. With a gasp, she fought to maintain her balance, thankful that she had at least one set of wings still to help keep her upright. Suddenly, it felt as if the entire universe was spinning around her and she felt a strange tickle in her nose. Closing her eyes, she did something she had never done before.
"AH-AHH-AAHCHOOO!"
She sneezed.

12th Avi: The Effects of Earth on Angels (September 4, 2008 - September 6, 200 cool
Again, a flash of white blinded the angel. When she could see again, her whole world felt off-balance. She frowned, and then slowly sank into despair as she realized why. Earth had finally, completely changed her. She was no longer an angel. She was just a human. A human girl.

13th Avi: Searching For Usagi (September 6, 2008 - September 9, 200 cool
She started to sob about her lost home, the things she would never see again, the friends she would never see again--
"Usagi!" she suddenly exclaimed, remembering her best friend, who was also experiencing these radical changes. "I have to find him!"
So she did. Using her new human arms and legs, she slowly learned to walk like humans, and thus searched for Usagi; calling his name and falling no few number of times. She got caught in weeds and brambles and mud, and soon, her once-glistening dress was reduced to rags, which she tried to clean off in a nearby stream. Thankfully, her golden armor remained unphased by the tortures of Earth, and the ang---well, girl continued her search, all-too-well aware that her friend was as new to this planet as she was, and was probably having a much harder time. Still, she wondered if her search was in vain. Usagi had never looked at her like that before.... Would her old friend even respond to her call if he could hear her? She felt her heart twist at the idea of being on this strange new planet all alone.
"Usagi!!!"

Finally, after hours of searching, the girl decided to take a break and sat down on a small black rock nearby. It immediately started to squirm.
"Hey! You're squishing me!!"
Immediately, she leapt back onto her feet and whirled, only to find a small imp zooming up to face her itself, yelling.
"Of all the dirty, low-down--!!"
"I'm very sorry, I didn't know you were alive."
"So, you regularly sit on dead imps?!?!"
"No, I thought you were inanimate. Wait. An imp? You're an imp?" the girl said catching herself and studying him.
"Last time I checked," the imp said drolly.
"You don't look like the last imp I met..." she said slowly. "You're black instead of white."
"White? You met an angel imp?" the new imp said. It looked at her more closely. "Hey, you're not just any old human, are you?"
"No," the girl admitted. "I used to be an angel."
"Oh really?"
Grateful at having someone to finally talk to, the former angel told the strange new imp her story. It listened attentively, making the appropriate responses when needed.
"Well, well," it said. "It seems you have had quite an experience. Betrayed... and so thoroughly too."
"Betrayed?" the girl repeated. "I wasn't betrayed...."
"Sure you were," the imp said. "First Heaven itself rejects for a simple little curiosity, and then your most-beloved friend abandons you when you need him most. Think about it. You have nothing left."
The girl opened her mouth to contradict the imp, but could find nothing to say against the truth in its words.
"But..." She trailed off. She really did have nothing. No home, no friends, and no way to get any of them back.
"You're stuck here," the imp said cheerfully. "Forever and ever. But don't worry. I'm not like those other guys. I won't abandon you to such a cruel fate. Come with me and I'll show you how to live on this heap of rock we call Earth."
*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*
15th Avi: The Imp's Help (September 12, 2008 - September 14, 200 cool
"First things first," the imp said, "we gotta get you cleaned up." Happily, the girl followed the imp to the nearby stream and they set about washing the remains of her dress. Her armor kept getting in the way when they were doing this, so she finally took it off. The imp immediately flew over and grabbed it.
"Why don't I just get rid of this for you?" he asked casually, starting to float away.
"Oh, no, wait!" the girl cried. The imp froze. "Please. I might need that. It's very precious to me." The imp turned to her and raised an eyebrow.
"Precious to you? Something from the same place that kicked you out? You really are pitiful. If it were me, I'd throw away everything I had from Heaven. Just to show that I don't care about them anymore than they care about me. After all, if they were your friends instead of me, they'd be trying to help you. But, I guess you don't want my help...."
"No, I do!" the girl cried, shaking her head vehemently. "I'm sorry. I was being silly. But what are you going to with it?" The imp grinned at her with a gleam in its eye.
"We're going to sell it!"
And that was just what they did. The imp led her to a nearby town where they found a goldsmith who was willing to pay quite a price for the beautiful piece. The goldsmith's wife made hats, and while the girl was busy admiring them, the imp quickly pocketed most of the money.
"Here," it said, floating over to her and handing her some money. "Use that to buy something to go with your dress. Oh, and I'll buy you a present. Which hat do you like the best?"
Minutes later, they were walking out of that town again, with a new pink hat, a pair of sandals that the imp had convinced the girl that she needed if she was going to walk everywhere now instead of fly, and a ragged old coat that the girl had "bought" from an old homeless man. The imp was still shaking its head over the fact that she had given the man all her money for the thing.
"My, that felt good!" the girl said happily, hugging herself. "Giving people this 'money' sure makes them happy!"
"No kidding," the imp muttered. Then he saw what was up ahead and stopped. "Umm... let's go on another way."
"Why?" she asked.

16th Avi: Welcome to Shabby Meadows (September 14, 2008 - September 16, 200 cool
A loud cry split the air. Wide-eyed, the girl rushed over to where the screaming was coming from. The imp reluctantly followed. Not far away, they found a little girl in the yard of a old, condemned-looking house, crying her lungs out.
"Oh, goodness me!" the former angel cried, rushing over and checking to make sure she was okay. "Darling, are you hurt??" The girl just kept screaming.
"I don't understand," the girl said, after determining that the child wasn't actually in any danger of dying anytime soon, and had no injuries to speak of. "What's wrong with her?"
"She's unhappy," the imp said, bored.
"Why?"
"I dunno, maybe 'cause her life sucks? She's an orphan, she lives here," the imp indicated the ruckety old house, "and, considering the fact that it looks like she's used to screaming like this a lot, she probably has no friends."
The girl considered this for a moment.
"She has no friends?" she finally asked.
"Probably not. I know I'm not going to be near her for much longer."
"And she's unhappy?"
"Um, duh."
"But presents make people happy, right?"
The imp looked at the girl incredulously. "Um, yes? Where are you going with this?"
"And friends give presents, right?"
"Err... you already gave all your money to that old man."
The former angel smiled.

They watched the little girl skip happily back to the house. Then the imp turned away with a huff.
"You didn't have to give her your hat," it said.
"But it went so well with her scarf," the girl replied, almost as happy as the orphan was now.
"But that was a present from me," the imp pouted.
"Oh dear, I'm sorry," she said, immediately contrite, "did I hurt your feelings? How can I make it up to you?"
"Actually, there is one thing--"
"Excuse me, are you the lady who gave Miasma her new hat?"
The imp and the girl turned to see a young man with a tiny child clinging to him, looking at them expectantly.
"Oh, you mean the child who couldn't stop crying?" the girl asked. "Yes, yes I am."
"Oh good," the boy said. He took a deep breath and then suddenly threw himself at her feet. "Plz i need anythin that u can giv me and i love you forever an ever and do everythin u want. just giv me ur items, plzkthx!!!!!"
The girl jumped away from the boy, wide-eyed as he nudged the child beside him, who immediately started crying and telling them this half-broken story about a man who had robbed her and her brother and now they had nothing but each other and could she please, please, help them get their stuff back?
The girl looked at the imp, who was pointedly ignoring the orphans. "Are they even speaking English?" she asked. "I can barely understand them."
"Who knows?" the imp said lazily, growling slightly as more and more orphans came pouring out of the house. "Umm..." The girl saw where it was looking and followed its gaze.

"Did we lose them?" the imp asked.
"I-I think so," the girl gasped. Suddenly, she bust into tears.
"What's wrong?!?!" the imp exclaimed, alarmed.
"I... I RAN AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!" the girl wailed. She buried her face in her hands. "They came to me, asking for help, and I ran away!!!! I feel so horrible!!!"
"Oh," the imp said. It didn't feel that way at all. "Well, you had to save yourself, you know...."
"But I should've done something to help them!! Anything! Anything but run away!!!"
"Anything?" the imp repeated, looking at her carefully.
"Anything!"

The girl stared at herself in the mirror. "Are you sure this was a good idea?"
"A good idea?" the imp repeated incredulously. "It was the only idea I could think of! You gave all the money you had earlier away already. We needed more... and your hair was made of gold, so... we just had to cut it off and sell it for cash so we can help those poor orphans."
"But this will really help them?" the girl asked eagerly. The imp nodded.
"Still, did you have to take so much?"
"What?? You only want to do things halfway?!?! I thought you were serious about helping people! Besides, I even left enough for it to be styled in a very popular style down here on Earth."
"You're right," the girl said, her determination hardened once more, "I have been too selfish. It's time to step up. Go all the way." She grabbed a razor nearby. The imp's eyes bugged out.

"There!" the girl said proudly, as she finished shaving the rest of her head. "Now I've given them everything!" She looked at the imp, expecting praise. For a moment, the creature stared at her in shock. Then it laughed nervously.
"Well, that certainly is something..." it said.
"You don't like it?" the girl asked, saddened by her new friend's reaction.
"No! No, it's just... unexpected, that's all," the imp said quickly. The girl smiled. "But..." it added, "in order to help others, you're also going to have to help yourself. It's getting cold nowadays. Why don't you use that hair you just shaved and buy yourself a new hat and some clothes while I go give the rest of this--" it indicated the large pile of money they had collected from her previously long hair "--to the orphans?"
"That's a wonderful idea!" the girl said. "They always say that's it's better to give anonymously anyways. And not to expect thanks. This way, I won't even have to see them! But do tell me how happy they looked when you get back, won't you?"
"Of course," the imp laughed, carrying away the large bag.
Satisfied that she had done her best, the girl turned to the hair dresser who had helped her cut her hair and helped her clean up the remainder of the golden hair. The hair dresser was more than willing to help her in exchanges for a good handful, so the girl gave her that and then set about exchanging the rest for some cash. Then she looked around.
"I guess I have to go shopping," she said. "Hmm... something warm for winter...."

"Oh, sweetie, what on Earth are you wearing?" one of them asked. The girl turned to face them, confused.
"Are you talking to me?" she asked.
"Do you see any other fashion disasters around here?" the second one sneered.
"Fashion disasters?"
"You, dearie," the girls said in unison. One shook her head at the former angel. "Really, what were you thinking?"
"I wasn't really," the former angel admitted, looking down at herself again. "I just kinda grabbed. I've never really shopped for clothes before so---"
"Well, count yourself lucky today!" the girls said, coming up and putting their arms around her. "We're going to be your fashion experts!!!"
"I'm Brandy," said the girl in red. "This is Britney," she indicated her sister in jeans. "And I think we need to start with that hat."

"There," Brandy cooed. "You look so much better now."
"Especially with the wig," Britney added. The girl between them couldn't help but notice how similar her outfit was to the other two girls', but she wisely said nothing about that.
"Well, it is nice-looking," she offered. "But the imp--I mean, my friend told me to get something warm for winter. I feel cold in this outfit right now, even though we haven't left the store."
"Air-conditioning," Britney said dismissively.
"Besides, the guys love it when you're perky," Brandy said slyly, winking at her. She didn't get the joke.
"All the same...." she said, hesitating.
"Oh, fine, fine," Britney said. "We're just trying to help you." They went back to the racks of clothes, Britney and Brandy chit-chatting and exclaiming over different articles every few moments.

"Why don't you buy some, then?" the girl asked. Britney looked so sad that she didn't have those earrings, and it broke her heart.
"I don't have enough money," Britney said, mournfully.
"Well, here," the girl said, handing her the money she had leftover from her purchase. Britney laughed.
"That's not enough!"
"Oh," the girl said, feeling slightly stung for some reason. Quickly, she thought hard. How could she make her new friend happy? Then she got it. "Here!" she said, taking off her own earrings and giving them to the girl.
"Oh, wow!" Britney exclaimed, taking them and hugging the girl. "Thanks so much!"
"You're welcome," the girl said happily. She liked making others happy.
"Hey, what's this?" Brandy exclaimed, coming up beside them. "Don't I get something? It's only fair!"
"Oh, right, of course," the girl said, "but I don't really have enough money to buy you something as well...."
"How rude!" Brandy huffed. "Here I am, helping you out from the goodness of my heart, and you can't even thank me properly. Plus you give my sister earrings!!!"
"I'm very sorry," the girl said, feeling ashamed of herself. "Here, I can just not buy some of this stuff and then I can give you the same amount of money that the earrings cost, okay?"
"I guess that's fine," Brandy said dismissively. The girl took off the wig and new hat she had been planning on buying, and put on her old cap. She didn't really need the new stuff. then, realizing that the price of those two still wasn't quite as much as the earrings, she took off her new ribbon as well. Then she gave Brandy the money. "Oh, you're so wonderful, sweetie!" Brandy said, hugging the girl. She instantly felt better.
"I'm glad you're happy," she told her new friend. Brandy nodded, already looking for a pair of earrings to match Britney's.
"Hey, this could take a while, sweetie," Brandy told the girl, after she purchased the rest of her items and put them on. Brandy was still looking for the perfect earrings. "Why don't you just wait outside for us?"

Once outside, the girl shivered as a cold wind blew past. She hadn't noticed it before, but it really was getting cold. And the sun was going down. She hoped the imp would get back soon and tell her where she could rest for the night. As a human, she would need to sleep. Or, maybe Britney and Brandy would help her out. She smiled as she thought of her new friends. They looked so happy to get their presents! She shivered again and then looked up to see the first few snowflakes start to fall.
"Pretty," she murmured, even as she shivered again. Maybe she should've gotten more clothes, she thought. It seemed to be a lot colder than she originally thought it would be. Oh, she hoped Brandy and Britney didn't take too much longer!!

She had no idea how long she stood there before she finally got too tired and sat down to wait for her friends. By then, the sun had long since set, and the snow continued to fall around her, collecting in little piles. Occasionally, she felt herself drifting off to sleep as the night progressed, but she was usually shivering too much to relax. Sniffling, she refused to cry. She didn't want her friends to she her looking so sad, and they could be there at any minute!
Behind her, a tiny creature flew by and stopped, confused as to why there was a human sitting in the snow like that. Carefully, it got closer, until it judged that the girl was no threat and actually, probably in a very good state to be... swayed. It grinned evilly.
"You okay?" it asked, hovering beside the girl. She gasped and looked up, then looked away, disappointed.
"You're not the imp," she said mournfully.
"An imp? Of course I am. I'm a succubus imp," the creature said playfully. "Call me Alruna."
"Well, Alruna," the girl said. "I thank you for your concern. But I'm just fine. I'm waiting for my friends. They should be here any minute now."
Alruna giggled. "Not very good at lying, are you?" she asked.
"I'm not lying," the girl said, surprised.
"Then why don't even you believe what you just said?" Alruna asked slyly. The girl hung her head.
"I believe in them, I do! But, it's just been so long... and I'm so cold, and tired...."

"Thank you so much," she told the succubus.
"Not a problem, dearie," Alruna said simply. "You looked cold and I hate that. Where I come from, people are never cold unless they've been very, very naughty."
"Really? That sounds like such a nice place," the girl said dreamily.
"Would you like to go?" Alruna asked slyly.
"Oh, yes!" the girl said immediately, eager to get out of the cold that was quickly becoming a blizzard. "But I don't want to intrude...."
"Oh, don't worry. We loooove company," Alruna laughed.
"All right then!" the girl said cheerfully. Alruna chuckled darkly.
"Well, to get there, you do need to do something."
"Like what?"
"Well, you have to think dark thoughts," Alruna said.
"Dark?"
"Well, has anything sad or depressing happened to you lately?" Alruna asked. Immediately, the girl thought about falling from Heaven, losing Usagi, being abandoned by the imp, and being tricked by Britney and Brandy into being so cold for so long.... A dark shadow fell over her and a hole opened up in the ground before her.
"Yes," Alruna murmured. "Just like that...."
