RAWRRRR!
I am seriously considering putting my two weeks in at work after a little bit more than a year of loving the job.
I work as a wait staff in a retirement community, 4pm-7pm, 12-15 hours a week.
It shouldn't be this bad.
Five simple jobs for five wait staff a night:
1/2-- set up dining room, serve section, clean up dining room
3-- dishes and host
4-- make sure breakfast nook is set & clean, serve, clean counters, and then sweep/mop
5-- set up soup & salad bar, serve section as needed, help the cook, take down soup & salad bar, clean pots and pans, organize silverware for dishwasher
VERY SIMPLE...especially the 5 job, since most of the time they don't have a section, and the section is only made up of four-person tables.
Tonight I was a 4. The 4 has the hardest section to serve since they have an eight-person table, a six-person round table, and two four-person tables. (1/2s, the other servers, have four four-person tables and one six-person round table) Of course, my eight table and one of my four tables have guests. And I don't know what the guests want. So, lucky little me has to go out and take the time to ask them what they want for dinner. And that's after I help the cook for four or five minutes even though it's not my job. So, needless to say, I was behind. I was trying to get my section's order in on time, and I asked one of the other wait staff if I could put one of my tables in ahead of a couple of theirs (my table had waited much longer than theirs had), but they said no. My tables were the last to be served. And with the rest of my job did anybody help me? No, of course not. I was the senior-most wait staff there, so I really shouldn't need the help, but really. When I give up time to do my job to help someone else's job, it's only respectful for them to help in return. But no. Not me! It's only at the VERY end of the 5's job that she even asks, "hey, want some help?" by then, I had done everything else and just needed to mop. Funny thing, at the last minute just after everyone had left, I looked at the sinks she was supposed to clean. I redid them they were so bad.
*sigh*
Rawr. I'm done.
