See the cell. It is doing things called “processes”. The cell is always busy working. Work cell, work.

Look at what the cell is doing. It is obtaining food molecules to support its other activities. The cell is eating. It is doing a process called Nutrition.

See the inside of the cell. It is very disturbing. Observe what it is doing now.

The voice says that the food particles are broken down into smaller pieces, with the help of enzymes, to suit cell uses. The process is called Digestion. Now say it with me Di-ges-tion…

Look, Pepe and Pilar, look. The scientist is looking at the cell thought a microscope. See its nice instrument. It is very expensive looking. The TV. Screen is focused again back to the cell. See what it is doing now. The cell is absorbing. The man who doesn’t show his face says that the process is called Absorption. Pepe wondered why the man would not show his face. Maybe he is a criminal. Pepe asks Yaya, Yaya did not answer. Yaya was mad. She wasn’t able to watch Lovers in Paris because Pepe and Pilar were using the TV. Yaya pouts in one corner of the sala. She kept on wondering what Vivian, Carlo, and Martin was doing. Pepe and Pilar had just let her be. Besides Yaya doesn’t own the TV, and her disturbing loud shouts, every time she gets “kilig” might give Lola an attack. Later the cell is organizing complex chemicals o simpler ones. While the process took place, it was accompanied by music. It went like this: “ Tantaran-tan-tarantan”. The process was called Biosynthesis.

The cell is doing something right now. But Pepe did not notice or took any attention to it. Yes…you guessed it right…it was Yaya. Yaya was shaking Pepe saying, “Patan-awa na ko. Mu-layas gyud ko ron!!” Pepe was irritated. Pepe can’t stand Yaya anymore. He called Lola. Lola took Yaya to another room and scolded her. Pepe noticed that he lost track of the documentary. Pepe asked Pilar said that, earlier when Yaya was disturbing him, the cell was doing the process called Excretion and Ingestion. Pepe was puzzled. He asked Pilar what were the differences; Pilar finally explained, “Excretion is in which the by-products not needed are eliminated, while Ingestion is in which insoluble, non-digested particle are eliminated by the cell”. Pepe now understood.

“Secretion is the process by which substance are synthesized, and then are expelled from the membrane” the voice said. But Pepe and Pilar haven’t heard it. The misunderstanding yells between Lola and Yaya were heard around the house. Curious neighbors tried to listen to the screams. Pepe and Pilar didn’t care. Pepe and Pilar were numb.

Moments later they saw different kinds of cells. Each having parts like cilia or flagellum. The voice said, “Movement is a process in which includes the locomotion of cells…” it looked like fun. Pepe and Pilar tried to imitate what they saw. Move Pepe and Pilar, move.

See what the cell is doing right now. It reacted to the external factors or conditions around them. It was irritated like Pepe to Yaya; now look at what the cell is doing right now. It is respiring “… the process of breaking down food molecules into chemical energy needed”. The voice said. Now the cell is doing weird things. It is sticking itself to the some yet another organism. The siblings were confused. Pilar quickly got up and turned off the DVD player. His head was full of malice. Pepe wondered why. He did not understand. He is only 7 years old! Pilar hurriedly took Pepe to the ice cream shop to forget all about it. As it turned out to be, the one that Pepe and Pilar saw was the process called Reproduction, a process by which a cell copies or replicates its DNA and increases its numbers by cell division.
