Why are we proud to be human?

Well, as some of you visiting this profile might realize, I am an avid poetry reader. I love reading poetry, and writing it as well. Although I haven't read a lot of the poems by the greats, I really enjoy reading amateur poems...Like the ones in our poetry forum. Although I love our forum, I cannot say that I love some of the people who seem to be like Gods there (Have Your Pi, for example). I dislike who people point out faults in the actual poetry itself. Pointing out things like bad grammar, and spelling is fine by me, but you can't have a fault in a piece of art. And is poetry not an art?
This is yet another trademarked Dork Queen rant, but still I continue. (Would it still be a rant if I stopped there?) Why do we feel the need to impose our opinion on others?(I am not saying that I do not impose my opinion, in fact the existence of this rant shows that sometimes I do.) Why must we insist that everyone else should follow the doctrine that we have laid out for ourselves, with so little regard to the imagination, emotions and specific talents, of others? (I am not (I HOPE!) Guilty of the last one.) Why must we (and I mean humans in general) so often ignore the feelings of others and pay attention to only our own? Perhaps it is that animal instinct that you, only you, are what matters, that YOU have to survive. Perhaps it's just pride? Why are we so indignant, why?
This is beginning to sound extremely emo now *bangs head on the table twice, straightens up and continues typing* That, just now, proved it's emo-ness. *contemplates banging head again, but then decides not to because of the spinning feeling* Anywhoo, I just wonder, nearly everyday, why we are so proud to be humans? We're foolish, egotistical, selfish, stupid, and downright horrible. What is there to take pride in there? Sure we think we're the most intelligent creatures on the planet, we could think up an atom bomb and the ilk, but were we smart enough to know, that creating such a thing was wrong? Well, maybe...But I'm going off on a tangent now, but I'd still like to point out that humans really are stupid.(Yes, I realize I too am a human. Yes, I realize I'm calling myself stupid.)
With so little regard for the feelings of others, why are we considered so great? *Sigh* I can't think of anything else to whine. Ja.
