Again, let me say it was not fairy tale. It was hard work. But I had come close enough to the edge to stare over, and it had been terrifying.
There were, at that time, and I would wager that there still are- worse things for a hansome young man to be than an actor.
But enough of that- I was an actor, and I fancy, a pretty good one. It was steady work, because in those days there were no movie theatres. If one wanted to take in a show, one went to the theatre. There were cheap, penny-a-seat theatres and ones more upscale, where champane was served between acts.
My theatre was somewhere in between.
While I was not the kind of actor that shakes nations, I was good enough to take us closer to the golden cherubs of respectablity. Once, maybe a year after I started, a truely respectable theatre 'borrowed' me for a performance.
And that was when I saw Henry Constintine again.
