History
-Name- was born to a single mother, not knowing a single thing about his father. The first few years of his life was spent hidden away from Ponyville at his home near the edge of the Evergreen Forest, until he became old enough to attend school. His first day of school was something close to a nightmare; Living near the edge of the creepy forest usually meant a lack of visitors from Ponyville and a lot more of the creatures dwelling within. Unfortunately, it had left him a little clumsy around the other children. He tried to make friends, but he had the social graces of... well, mud. It didn't help that he was constantly mistaken for a girl, due to his mother making him grow out his mane to hide the horns.
It didn't take a week of attending school that -name-'s horns were revealed. He was playing a game involving a ball with the other children in the schoolyard. One of the other kids accidentally hit the ball onto the roof of the school and it got stuck there. None of the pegasi or unicorn children were old enough to fly up or use magic, save -name-. Using his magic to levitate the ball down, the other children first thought that a nearby teacher got it down, until they saw the horns in -name-'s mane glow with magic. What frightened them most were how they were shaped.
:I have no idea if the glow off their horns are visible or not:
The children ran to the nearest teacher, screaming 'monster' and 'demon', leaving -name- behind with the ball.
:why haven't I fixed this tragedy mistake yet?! :
The principal brought in -name-'s mother a day later to discuss her son's appearance. It was ruled that he would be allowed to attend as long as he kept his horns hidden. The adults were hoping that with them being out of sight, they would cause less trouble among the students. They were wrong.
While the children didn't necessarily hate him, they did avoid him as much as possible, until one day when their teacher set up an activity that more or less forced them to interact.
((What came of this situation? It seems strange to mention it without exapnding upon it. - Jackie))
you are right. this part should be expanded now that you point it out. thanks
Feeling like an outcast, he spent most of his playtime at the library, away from the whispering and the disapproving looks of the other students. It wasn't until he found a book titled "Lord of the Saddle" that he began dreaming of the day he would be looked up to as a hero. For the next two years, he would spend his free time at school reading up on knights and their code of chivalry, as well as monsters and warlocks. While at home, he would play close to the forest edge using magic on a stick playing, or as he saw it, practicing for knighthood.
It wasn't until his third year of school that things began to change for the better. It was during free time when he was at the library. The rest of the students were outside playing, leaving -name- the only child to notice when someone entered the room.
It was his teacher. She came by to tell him that some members of the Royal Guard would be coming within the hour for a presentation out in the schoolyard. -name- immediately rushed outside and waited for them to come so he could be the first one to greet them. It wasn't long after the guards arrived that the other students joined him. Once the presentation was over, the other children went back to playing their games. Out of habit, -name- began to make his way back to the library, when one of the kids asked him if he would join them in a game.
((What caused the student to invite him to the game? Is this a potential friend? - Jackie))
was actually just an Unnamed NPC, but I guess I should give it a shot on the explanation. though I don't know if I could make another OC.
Suffice to say, that school day was the best day of his life at that moment. That evening, -name- went out a little deeper into the Evergreen forest than usual to play, feeling elated at how that day went. Unaware of where he was going, he bumps into a pack of timber wolves. :subject to change:
-Name- and the wolves did not immediately react to each other. The young pony certainly did not expect to find a pack of wolves staring him down and the wolves did not expect their lunch to find him so easily. Luckily -name- snapped out of it and ran as fast as he could, though he didn't get far. More wolves appeared behind him, surrounding him from all sides. -Name was unable to watch all of them at once, resulting in one of them lunging forward biting his tail. Arc freaked out and yanked his tail from the maw of the beast, but this was not without consequences. Most of the hair was gone, save for a small tuft on the tip of his tail, looking very much like flame on a candle wick. Noticing this, he thought up a plan that would either save him, or destroy him and everything else in the forest.
Arc thought through this seconds before he made his choice. If he didn't make the attempt, he would certainly end up mulch for the timber wolves. At least what he had planned would offer a small chance of survival.
using a bit of his magic, he concentrates on hopefully making a fire big enough to scare away the wolves, but small enough to keep it under control. His first attempt only made a small flame and it immediately flickered out from a passing breeze. The second time wasn't much better, either, though it was a bit bigger, the size of a golfball. The wolves were much closer, their maws looking as if they were giving him a mocking smile. desperately, -name- tries a third time. the flame grew to the size of a basketball, and it was stable, with bits of it flying out. it wasn't perfect nor was it the well-maintained, but considering his age and lack of experience, and given the current situation, it was probably the most beautiful thing he ever saw, for it did the trick. The wolves stepped back away from the ball of fire in fear from what it is and it's sudden appearance. -Name- kept the orb close to him hoping they would not get any ideas.
figuring it would not be worth it, the wolves fled back into the woods, looking for another meal.
-Name- causiously walked back home, keeping the fire going close by in case any other creature decided to have him for a snack, though all was quiet. Once he reached his house, he released the magic and let the fire snuff itself out and went inside.
