I got this book all on these different gods and goddess, and that pair was in there. It's an interesting, almost-inspiring, and, unfortunately, sad story. Because of the time period it takes place in, its main focus is sexist, but the story itself isn't bad. So I'll take out the controversial stuff, and give it a more modern setting.
It's a love story, I guess. Bit cheesy too. Enjoy.
Who is she? Izanagi felt the blood rush to his face as his eyes focused in on a girl standing in the distance. She was eighteen, his age, yet he had never seen her before. She didn't go to my school... He looked around cautiously before approaching. Small groups of people dotted the area, clustered close together speaking distant, muffled words. They didn't seem to notice her, and he saw no one nearing. Maybe she's not waiting for anyone... He looked back to her, and she was leaning against a wall, her eyes closed as her own private musicians played in her head through earphones. Long locks of brown hair rested on her shoulders and flowed down her back, their tips touching her waist. She was dressed casually, adorned in black pants, and a blue shirt with flip flops beneath her feet. His eyes, however, locked onto her lips, they were curved upwards in a soft smile, almost inviting.
He gulped down the fear lurking within his throat, and dispelled the trembling from his legs as he took a step forward, then another step, and another after that. Before he knew it, he was only a few feet from her, and he could hear a gentle tune resonating from her smile. It was low, barely audible, but the hum filled his ears, and selfishly warded off any other noises. His world shrunk down to the girl before him. He stood still for a moment, every word he knew fought among themselves within his mouth, all wanting a chance to be the first to meet her. A first impression is important, I need to sound cool... One by one, he sent the words away until he was left with, what he thought to be, the best possible thing he could say. When he gathered the courage, he returned to reality, and then realized that the entire time he was lost in his thoughts, she was looking at him. His face became a bright crimson, and he quickly looked away. He could still feel her eyes on him.
"H-Hello..." he said weakly, with an uneasy smile upon his lips. "I-I'm Izanagi, and, well..." His face grew hotter. He summoned up all the power he could, and lifted his head to look her in the eyes. Beautiful... Her eyes were like nothing he had ever seen before, they boasted of strength and confidence, yet held a timid, curious look. "W-What's your name!" He meant for it to come out as a question, but as the words were released into the air, they sounded almost demanding.
She continued to stare, then, slowly, took off her earphones, and placed it around her neck. "Excuse me?" she asked with a shy giggle. "I couldn't hear you, sorry."
A second chance! He let out a thankful sigh, and banished the shakiness from his voice. "I'm Izanagi!" he said, clearly, and almost too loudly, he noticed stares from the corner of his eyes. "What's your name?" he asked, dropping the volume of his voice.
"Oh! I'm Izanami." She gave him a sweet smile. "It's nice to meet you."
Cute! "That's a-"
"Are you my stalker?" she asked curiously.
"...What?"
"You were staring at me, and I've had this weird feeling that I was being watched for the past week! Was it you?" Her eyes became intimidating in an instance. "Hmmm...?"
"N-No! Never!" he cried defensively. "I just saw you today, and I wanted to talk to you!"
"Why?" she asked, taking a step forward, closer to Izanagi.
"Because...well..." Why am I so scared?! "You looked lonely!"
"Lonely?" She stopped, and seemed to be lost in thought. "Ah, well, I don't know if that's the word for you." she said, rubbing her head. "I'm new here, so lost is a better word. I needed some time to relax, so I decided to listen to some music."
"But you said you've been here for a week. It's not a big town, how can you still be lost?" The question hurt her, and he could see it in her eyes. "Well, I mean...!" He looked around for something to change the topic. "Um, why are you here?"
"Why I'm here?" she repeated slowly, as if she didn't know the answer either. "A trip."
"A temporary trip?" he asked as his heart sank. He had hoped she would be a new resident here so that he would have more time to get to know her, but, now knowing she's only visiting, his dreams were demolished.
"Temporary isn't the best word, but yes, I am. I'll be here for the next six years for college."
Six years?! His hopes came back to life almost instantly. "Which college?"
"Invitinion College." she said proudly. "They accepted me, and, well, no other college in my area had what I needed, so I came here for it."
"Hey, I'm going there too!" he lied with a forced smile. He hadn't even sent out applications yet, and, for that college, they were due in two weeks. He was planning to take a year off from education, to have a year long summer, but he couldn't let her get away. He felt drawn to her, and, a believer in true love, Izanagi refused to think such an instant connection meant nothing.
"Really? Great!" Izanami clapped her hands together, "we'll be college buddies then."
Friend-zoned so early... He refused to let it hinder his spirit. He was going to win her heart, somehow.
TO BE CONTINUED~!
I'm still trying to get back into writing. I took a long break, and read some not-so-well written books, so that kinda hurt my writer's mojo, but it won't stop me! My writing will start out choppy, and definitely not the best, but I'll get back into the swing of things eventually. Practice makes perfect.
