Now that I think about it, Gaia has changed quite a bit. I joined about three years after this site started, but apparently in the beginning, this was mainly just a forum site. Over time, games were released and people grew more attached to dressing up their avatars. I still remember the old site headers and how noobish the dress-up page was. In fact, back then, getting Fairy Wings was the ultimate quest! 30,000 gold for an item was really expensive! gaia_gaiagold

I think I kind of understand now why people are so angry at the inflation in the marketplace. People are selling items for millions, which was an almost impossible amount back in the old days. I imagine that back then, you would have to save for at least a year to get that much, when now, you can just go on zOMG! for a few days and easily earn one million gold.

Just the other day, I was talking to a newbie who had just started a few days ago. He was already a 7.0 CL on zOMG and had quite a few expensive items. I was telling him of the past with no zOMG, evolving items, and other premium items besides the MCs. It seemed he almost couldn't believe that the first Gaians could live with that sort of thing! Of course, the kid was only about 13-14 years old, but I realized that a lot of people are getting spoiled today by how much some of these websites cater to them.

In closing, I realize this was a bit of a ranting post, but I just wanted to remind myself of the good old days. Back then, my main account was called Wizard Sapphire and my sister's was Suzu Fubayashi. I kind of regret changing the names, but just as their names changed, so did Gaia Online. For the better or worse, I cannot say as of yet.
