(In this story Angel is the main character. She is 18 years old, about to turn 19 ina few months. Her family is poor. It contains: her mother, father, older brother, Rain, younger sister, Amber, and her baby sister, Blue. Her father is trying to marry Angel off to any man he can get his hands on. He happens to find out, that a prince has an innocent crush on his daughter. But is it so innocent?... This story will be told from Angel's point of view.)
I came back from the town's small marketplace with a basketful of food. And considering that this was a small basket, it wasn't that great of an accomplishment. I slowly pushed open the only door to our small house. When I walked in I saw my parents whispering. They didn't notice I was here until the wind outside slammed the door shut. They both turned their head my way and stopped.
"Hello, Angel sweety, we didn't see you there", my mother said wiping her hands on her filthy apron. "Quickly. Come sit down. Your father and I have something to tell you."
She rushed me into a chair near the table. My father stayed in the kitchen a little until my mother beckoned him forth. As soon as I sat down my father started to speak.
"I have found a man for you. He is only a little bit older than you, and I believe you'll find him attractive. He is a prince of a different country. And you two will be getting married, and you will move away with him." Now usually it would break a father's heart to send his daughter away. But this man stood in front of me and spoke as if I were his maid and I was being fired. My mother, on the other hand, was almost crying. She wiped a fallen tear away before my little sister, Amber, came in.
"Mommy! Mommy! There's another snake in Blue's room!" Amber pulled at my mother's apron until she finally followed her out.
I was just alone with my father now. He sighed but said nothing. He was about to leave when I said, "I won't marry him."
He stopped dead in his tracks and spun around to face me. "Angel, how many marriages have you passed, now?"
"Eight...", I mumbled.
"Exactly. That's too many. Other women would've died to marry those men!"
"And I would've died to stay away from them", I was growing angrier with each second. His hand reached back ready to slap me when someone knocked on the door.
