Welcome to Film Noire a mini series where I tell you everything you need to know about upcoming movies and why you should play hooky and see them. This show is connected to the Under the weather radio.My name is Twilight Afternoon and tonight episode is Marvel films. Well be talking about X-Men Origins: First Class and Captain America. Plus some insights on the new Spider man movie and why you need to see this one the other ones.
The next movie from X-Men origins series. For those who haven't heard about this movie here is what it is about. "Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men."
I may not be a huge marvel fan with all of the comics ever published but I do know a good film when I see it. Let's talk a little about the film. The film was directed by Matthew Vaughn who directed popular film Kick-a** and stardust. Screenplay by Josh Schwartz and Executive Produced by Gregory Goodman. Some insight on this film.The 1960s setting of X-Men: First Class will be technologically inspired by the James Bond films of that era, also adding to the international feel of the characters. The X-Men costumes will look much more as they did in the original comics compared the newer versions. Due to filming in England the loveable Stan lee could make a cameo in this film.
Now as for the cast there are some familiar faces and some new ones.Charles Xavier is played by James McAvory who was the lead in the popular movie Wanted. Erick Lehnsherr is played by Michael Fassbender who some may know him from 300 and INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. Now as for the X-men team. We have Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Skin fans out there Nicholas Hoult will be playing the part as the Beast. Lucas Till as Havoc, Zoe Kravitz as Angel, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystic, Edi Gathegi as Darwin, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, and January Jones as Emma Frost. Now for the villain we have the loveable Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw.
From the critic ears it brings music to them. Slash Film one of the critic had wrote "Going into the film, I had so many expectations (most of which were set-up by the trailers). I had assumed that the advertising was being packed with all the moments in an effort to sell a action-less origin story, but I was surprised at how much action was actually the film. I don’t think anyone will see this movie and come out disappointed. It strikes a great balance of being accessible to non-comic book fans and packing some pretty cool easter eggs that comic geeks will love."

Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. This film has been getting amazing raves everywhere I've seen.
There is a fantastic cast line up for this movie that I'm well giddy. This film was directed by Jon Favreau who is a well known actor and director who directed films from I love you man to Iron man one and two. Produced by Kevin Feige written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Like in X-men there are some familiar faces. Former Marvel veteran Chris Evans who was one Johnny torch in Fantastic Four plays the man of the hour Captain America/ Seth Roger. Some may also know him in Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Like all great superheros they have great sidekicks Bucky Barnes is played by Sebastian Stan who some may know him form the popular show Gossip Girls. Another person you might know the men in black himself Tommy lee Jones as Col.Chester Phillips. As for the villain of the story the head of HYDRA is played by megaton himself Hugo Weaving. Other names like Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough, Hayley Atwell, Stanley Tucci, and Richard Armitage are just some of the actors.
Captain America: First Avengers comes out July 22, 2011.
Now for the reason to see the next Spider man movie. Everyone knows about Stan lee game of cameo appearance that it has been a game of "Where Stan Lee?"
