Chishio had been my best friend since I was six. The year before that, though, my parents were killed by a demon of unknown origin. I found him in an alley, pouring rain. Now I was fourteen, with my grandparents living next door to my small apartment. Today is my fourteenth birthday, so Chishio and I celebrated after I got home from school. We started with a marathon of my favorite animes, then had a small cake. Later on, I got curious as to why you shouldn't give a cat catnip. "Come on....please!" Chishio begged. I went to get the catnip from the cabinet, but instead, there was a small crystal. It's color was a luminesent yellow, the same as Chishio's eyes. Chishio leaped onto the counter and said curiously "What's that?" I turned around and showed it to him. But then a beam of light bubbled up and trained itself on Chishio. He jumped off the counter and leaped up onto the couch, trying to escape the stalker-like beam. All of a sudden, the light got brighter and the beam got bigger- so large that it bathed him in the yellow light. It got too bright for me, so I shut my eyes tight and covered them with my arm. The light dimmed and flickered out. When I opened my eyes, the small crystal had transformed into a pendant- which had a crest on it. I looked up from the pendant to around my home, but I couldn't find Chishio anywhere. I got on my hands and knees to see if he was in his favorite hiding spot-under my bed. There he was, curled up, sleeping. I followed his lead and climbed into bed...
