Let's skip all the hary details and get on with the actual story. Basically all we did was play sports and go for walks.
June 5th.
I was laying in my bed in the cabin, which I shared with Layla and Caroline. Jake and Zack shared the room next door. I was awaken by violent shaking.
"Mia Mia wake up!" Layla wispered. I opened my eyes and looked at the clock. SEVEN FIFTEEN?! REALLY LAYLA?!
"Wha-a-a-at?" I asked rubbing my eyes. "C'mon! I got Jake and Zack up, now it's just you!" she said standing above me. "Okay, why do I need to get up at seven in the freakin' morning?" I asked. "Get up, get dressed, and I'll tell you!" she said. Then she left the room. Might aswell humour her, right?
I literally rolled out of bed, making a silent thud on the floor. I looked at Caroling. She was still asleep. Lucky I thought. I rummaged through my bag for cloths. I chose a black shirt, a grey GAP hoodie and a pair of faded jeans, plus my red converse.
I rubbed my eyes and brushed my hair at the same time as I exited our room. Jake and Zack were sitting at the table and Layla was pacing across the small living room.
She wore a pari of dark skinny jeans and a pink tank top with the straps tied in a bow at the top. A gold hard was in the bottem corner. And she wore pink converse. Her hair was in a ponytail.
Jake wore a brown hoodie and dark jeans, plus his Nike's. Zack wore a dark blue plaid shirt over a plain white shirt and light jeans and his Addidas.
"Okay Layla, why did you wake us up so early?" Jake asked. "I woke up really early and couldn't go back to sleep, so I decided to go for a walk." she said. "Fascinating." Jake replied. Layla shot him a shut-up look. "I wasn't done." she said. "Oh, excuse me. Please, continue." he replied. Jake was cranky when you inturrupted his sleep.
"So, as I was walking, I noticed a chest down in the lake." Layla continued. "So...?" I asked. "So, I thought we should go check it out!" Layla said. "Really? Why should we? Maybe it's somone prized possesion of ancient Coke bottles or something." Jake said. "Or maybe there's some rabid animal in there ready to attack when someone opens the chest." I said. I leaned against the table and crossed my arms. "I highly doubt that. Maybe it has a billion dollars in it!" I yawned. "C'mon guys, will you alteast go with me to check it out! Please? You guys can go back to bed after we see what's in it. Okay?"
So, we all agreed to go with Layla to the lake. No, it wasn't the lake by the cabin. If you go down the road twords the gate to come into the area with the cabin, there's a steep hill that leads down into a larger lake. The second day we were at the cabin, Jake and I made a path down to the lake so we could fish. There was a little patch of land large enough to fit all four of us.
We walked down the path, and sure enough, there was a chest on the edge of the patch of land.
It was more like a box than a chest to me. It was perfectly square with red and silver jewels on the sides. It had no lock, so it probably wasn't that important.
"C'mon guys, let's look inside!" Layla said as she bent down and lifted the top of the chest. We all towered around Layla and looked in the chest/box.
Wristbands. Wha?
They were all red with silver hats on them. They looked like, magician hats. Top hats, that's what their called.
"Well, this was a waste of getting up in the morning." said Zack. Yeah, I know, he doesn't talk much.
"I think they're cool," said Jake. He reached in the chest/box and grabbed all the wristbands. "There's four of them. Awesome!" he saide as he started destributing them among us. "Jake, we can't just steal someone's chest of wristbands." said Layla. "Well they obviously didn't want them, so we might aswell take them!" he said sliding his on his wrist.
"Why?" I asked. I looked down at the wristband. It looked brand new.
"It'll be a symbol of our friendship!" he said. "We'll wear it at all times. And when our friendship ends, which I hope it never does, we take the wristbands off."
Honestly, to me, it was a pretty good idea.
"Yeah, I see what your saying. I'm in, how bout you guys?" Zack asked as he slipped his wristband on. "Yeah! Sounds like a plan!" said Layla, slipping hers on. "Yeah, sure, what the heck. Can I go back to bed now?" I asked slipping mine on. "Sounds like a plan. C'mon guys let's go." Jake said, heading back up the path.
We were about 5 feet from the lake when we heard a loud rumbling noise. "What was that?" I asked. "I don't know, probably nothing." said Layla. I shrugged my shoulders.
We continued walking.
Then, all of a sudden, the ground just started shaking.
"What the. Nebraska doesn't get earthquakes, does it?!" I asked, starting to panic. "No, it's not supposed to!" said Layla. "Well, there's a first time for everything. I say we haul rear end and get back to the cabin!" Jake said as he darted twords the cabin. We followed. My heart was pounding.
We turned a corner only to run into a large boulder infront of our path. Where the heck did that huge thing come from? It covered the entire path. Well crap.
"Oh God oh God." said Layla. She froze in her path. The ground shaking became worse. Even the ground began to split.
"Hey, we can try to climb it!" said Jake as he ran twords the large rock. He tried climbing it, and I searched for other ways out. No luck.
"Damnit!" Jake said in frustration. Oh boy, Jake hardly ever swore.
"Ohhhhh God." Layla said. She started shaking. I went and hugged her. "Don't worry, Lays. We'll find a way out." I said trying to help. Was I a 100% sure we would? No.
The ground started cracking even more. It moved twords us. It cracked right by my feet. I screamed as I almost fell. Layla caught me and we both stepped aside, hugging eachother.
"Well come on you big strong men, figure something out before we freaking die!" I yelled over to Jake and Zack, who were on the other side. The crack got bigger. A lot bigger.
It spread to Zack, who slipped and fell. Into the large hole it was making.
"ZACK!" Layla screamed. Crap I thought. That was an understatment.
"Zack!!" Jake yelled. We both looked down in the hole. No sign of him. It looked super deep. The hole got bigger. Jake slipped and fell. Guess where? The large hole.
"JAKE!" I yelled letting go of Layla, running to Jake's aid as he dangled from the side of the hole. I'd never seen his face so scared. I tried grabbing his hand to help pull him up, but instead he slipped out of my hand and fell right into the hole. I heard him scream as he fell. I could feel tears coming.
I stood up, shaking. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happining. No way.
Layla ran over to me. Then, the hole got bigger, making me slip into-yep- the hole. Pulling Layla with me. We both screamed.
My world just went black after that.
