Apocritasp (Uzzzzzz-pkt-crrr-sss, as they would pronounce it.)
When some scientists thought it'd be amusing to send some pumped up super wasps into space for a course for what seemed to be a habitable planet, they most probably didn't even think of the idea these creatures could evolve themselves into something greater then they could have imagined.
Once the critters landed on a planet similar to a primitive Earth (Before the dinosaurs), the high oxygen levels allowed for their odd breathing ways to accustom and allow them to grow bigger much like their long gone Prehistoric cousins had; growing up to absurd sizes. These wasps had eventually evolved into upright walking almost humanoid like creatures that have a very complex vocal speak in the form of clicks, buzzes, hums and various other noises they can create. Mostly this evolution happened due to the fact of the strange planet and their bodies going into heightening their intelligence to survive.
Their flight ability however is somewhat maimed with their larger weight- They're much better at gliding then actual flight. It's not that they can't fly, it's just very tiresome. It's much easier when their children but when they get older they have more trouble in using it. However gliding is still useful when they travel along their harsh jungle like landscape of a planet, able to glide away from danger over cliffs and from the tops of trees. With their 6 limbs and wings for backup, climbing trees is a breeze really.
Their exoskeleton is still intact as well, accounting for their usual lack of any need for armour- Mostly because they don't need that much strong armour considering their competition on the planet.
Social system's tend to be in a nearly insect like format, where there is one ruler or 'Queen' with a board of other Apocritasp's that are from the various colonies for countries around the planet. People are still specialists and every, and there are ranks as to commanding people and such. Females however are the more dominant sex in the world, being rather larger and stronger then the males. Males are mistreated slightly, but nothing really besides just keeping them to jobs they can handle, the females taking on the harder more strength needing jobs due to obvious reasons.
Colonies are made rather quickly and simply- As long as there is something they can chew up and spit out to form into their building material. Really they use the original wasp idea of chewing up wood (Or anything else that works) and turn it into a strange sticky pulp they build up to make into buildings and anything else.
Of course this helps to stick their houses into weird positions and everything, most wasp people going with their instinctive habitats of niches and spots hidden from the outsiders eye to make their homes, towns and cities.
Their ships are actually living creatures they made special 'exosuits' for, so they could survive space. The weird things had hollowish insides, mainly the brain area- which the wasp humanoids took advantage of. They bred the animals specifically over a long time and eventually made a variety of subspecies of it; each made for a different purpose. The insides of the shiny metal beasts are very peculiar and in the brain cavity area there are neural links that can be used to pilot them. The walls are a squishy and almost spongy texture which ads for safty on crash landings- Generally the strong creature would survive such things, but it depends.

(Females are generally bigger then their male counterparts. Both however can have colour variations. There are also occasional variations in body and mouth structure like more 'wasp like' mouths to weird pincer like ones, and more spikey exoskeletons to more smoother ones and so forth. These don't really effect anything though, the difference is all just aesthetic. Well obviously beside the fact that being spikey would hurt aggressors and different mouths' bites would cause different wounds.)

Basics:
Being that males generally have lesser jobs for their smaller weaker bodies, Bzzcluk is rather lucky to be one of the ones that didn't. His smaller size however gives him the ability to be a bit more stealthier then his female brethren and fly a bit easier and better. He managed to get an Explorer job; One of the more exciting but perhaps more dangerous jobs around. To be blunt, it's basically as the word goes, he's just exploding the vicinity around their planet, looking for other places of interest and perhaps visiting others with fleets.
Gear:
He carries the average needle gun most fleet personnel have; Needles are doused in the venom from their stinger and the stocked up and used in these guns. Besides that he generally uses his own hand to hand combat methods- Having 6 limbs really gives the upper advantage to most races. The other standard gear he has is a special backpack like thing that leads tubes to the breathing holes on this thorax- Basically his air breathing tank.

A standard small organic travel ship most travellers use when by themselves. It's reasonably small with a small cargo hold for any things of interest they collect. Really it's more of a scientific collection vessel if it must be described as such.
