There was once a peaceful ninja village where ninjas grazed happily, darting to and fro in the surrounding lush bamboo forests, as ninjas are prone to do when undisturbed in nature. Among these ninja, Raiden and Raika, a pair of twins were the most prized students. One day a dark warrior swept through town and changed their lives forever.

(Parents tell their children stories of a wicked, old woman who lived in the woods. Legend has it that her cackle can still be heard at night.)

CHAPTER 1 (two young ninja trainees have seen their master slain by an unknown assassin)

The rooster crowed as the sun rose on a new day in the village of Tenkaze. In front of the dojo belonging to Master Tenkai, the villages prized students knelt in silence. Twins, a boy and a girl, known as Raiden and his Raika had not moved all night. A test of patience in their long road to become ninja warriors. As their sensei came out of the dojo he smiled upon his students. "Today you will face your final trials." he said, "Go into the forest and you will find a shrine to the fallen protectors of this village. There you will find a note. Read it and follow the instructions I have written for you." He smiled at the two. A smile of love, devotion, and sadness. He then turned and retreated back into his dojo. Master Tenkai knelt before several candles. He lit one and began to pray.

With devilish grin towards each other the twins bound from their positions and raced to the shrine. They laughed as they raced through the trees of bamboo. They knew the way to the shrine very well, for Master Tenkai had taken them to spar their many times before. When they arrived at the shrine the sun was already very high in the sky. The twins walked up to the shrine and knelt as they said a prayer for those who had come and gone before them. Once they had payed their respects Raiden found the note and read it aloud. "Raiden and Raika,"

"That's us." Raika said as she tried to read over her brother's shoulder.

"Yeah," Raiden smirked and continued, "The two of you are the most promising students I have ever had the pleasure of training. Your first trial of the day is to spar until one of you has been defeated or until the sun reaches the peak of the mountains as it sets. Once you are done return to the village for your final test." The two of them prepared for battle, took their stances and the fight began. They exchanged fierce blows and dodged deadly attacks for hours. When the sun had reached the mountains peak the twins smiled once more. Both stood ready to continue the fight, but they followed the instructions of their sensei and raced home.

Back at the dojo Master Tenkai sat before the melted candle. He had finally finished his prayer. "I have waited for you." he said to the shadows. "Will you make it quick?" The sound of a chain unraveling came from the darkness. As the candle finally extinguished only the wind could be heard over the dripping of blood.

Outside the twins came running up the steps of the dojo. They opened the door to reveal a horrible sight. Master Tenkai hung from the rafters by a hooked chain. Standing below was a dark warrior covered by shadow. Only his eyes could be seen in the night. One as white as snow and the other red like blood. The warrior vanished and the two children stood in shock at the scene before them.

CHAPTER 2 (a bloody, sword-swingin' massacre)

A scream from behind them pulled the twins back to focus. They looked to the village and say the dark warrior standing atop a house. Symbols were flowing from his arms and slithering through the air like snakes as they entered the windows of other homes. Soon others began to scream as building were set ablaze by what seemed to be the wind. The twins armed themselves with katanas and ran out the door. The dark warrior was leaping from between rooftops. The twins gave chase. They soon caught up with the warrior who stopped in front of the village temple. "Who are you?" Raiden demanded.

"Why did you kill our master?" Raika screamed. The warrior didn't answer and didn't reply. He was still unrecognizable in the dark of night and his expression unseen but somehow his eyes became evil. He began his attack. Disarming Raika with his hook chain he struck out at Raiden with his three claws. With a flick of the wrists both children were were unarmed. At that moment a monk flew out of the temple and landed a kick on the warrior. The warrior seemed unaffected by the attack yet it was obvious that he was angry. The warrior grabbed the monk and ran back into the temple. The twin regained their weapons and ran after the warrior. Once inside the temple the twins saw a trail of blood and followed it down a stone staircase. When they reached the bottom of the stairs they saw two terrible sights. The monk who attacked the warrior was suffering from several mortal wounds and the village's sacred sword was broken.

CHAPTER 3 (our heroes have buried their slain master, and now vengeful thoughts are a-brewin...)

CHAPTER 4 (the paths of our two young heroes have diverged... Raiden has met a powerful monk (like you, Brother Swimp!) and Raika has met a dark, mysterious stranger...)

CHAPTER 5 (our heroes have both found unusual trainers, one a blind swordsman and the other a strange swamp-dweller.)

CHAPTER 6 (the young hero and heroine are beginning to come into their own.)
