* It makes me sad to think how much of Freddy Mercury's life was spent passing for white and pretending his lover was a gardener and the like. I bothers me that he was so bold in so many ways, but still ended up with more than open closet only half open because it wasn't safe. It makes me think of beautiful birds with clipped wings.

What scene? Huh? Who's Rusty? Is this a TV show, or something that happened in a game? What happened in the scene which was horrifying? Inquiring minds wanna know!
BTW, I'm also saddened to think that Freddy Mercury had to spend his life living various lies. He was very popular and wealthy enough that it really shouldn't have been an issue. Unfortunately then (and now, though to a lesser extent), his popularity (and by extension, wealth) depended upon him fitting a certain image. The same can be said for any celebrity back then (and now). How long was it before Elton John came out? Does he even admit to being gay now, or is he still bi? (I have a vague memory of some of the jerks on my dorm floor sneering when he came out as bi, so that was many years ago). It's certainly easier now, but by no means easy. Even an established celebrity can 'lose it all' by coming out, though there are very notable exceptions (Elton John, Rosie O'Donnell, and of course, Ellen). Could someone who isn't well-established come out and hope to achieve stardom? I don't know. Maybe, though I suspect that would be the exception, not the rule. sad
