Chapter 6, 1st day, The carnival
Chris didn't sleep well last night from his thoughts about Jack's offer. He continued his daily routine since his dad was gone for work. Music was blaring as he ate, showered, and changed. If it wasn't for the skip in the CD, he would never have heard the bell ring. Chris ran downstairs, half hoping it was jack, half hoping it wasn't. He opened the door to the happy face of rebecca. "Hey! Mind if i come in?" She asked. "No problem, i was actually thinking about what i was to do today." Chris wished that was the case. He wished he could tell Rebecca, but he couldn't. He was afraid her actions toward him would change. "Well... i was hoping you and Marcus would come with me to the carnival downtown." Chris smiled. 'The carnival,' He thought, 'The perfect distraction.'
"Come one you slowpoke! You're dragging us behind!!" Rebecca yelled. Marcus was slugging along. They'd woken him up and he tried to make some excuse about it being scientifically proven that kids needed twelve hours of sleep during the summer. Obviously, he lost the debate. "Women... Maybe i will loose interest... They're so Damn whiney..." he mumbled. "What was that Fruit cake? You talking about your crush on Ryan Seacrest, or adam? Come ON!!! I want to get to the carnival BEFORE the crowds arrive!" Rebecca finally stopped, and grabbed Marcus by his arm and pulled him along. When he resisted, she'd pull him by his hair. When the Carnival came to view, Chris stopped in his tracks. The sighn was bright pink and there were so many rides with red hearts and couples riding them. "Umm... Becca, this Carnival is based on love... I think we took a wrong turn somewhere." Chris began. "Like hell we did." Rebecca replied. "Love carnival or not, the rides look fun! C'mon let's go!"
It wasn't all that bad. There were some cool rides like the twister, which was a roller coaster that went to extreme speeds while climbing the humps in the rail. Then the hammers, which were two hammer shaped capsulers with chained openings and seats at the front. Marcus went on with another dude and the ride began swinging up and down, then around like hammers being pounded then tossed. Once the ride ended, we waited next to a bush as Marcus relieved his stomach of the tension. After that Marcus refused to go on any roller coasters, or rides, so he spent his money on the prize games while Rebecca talked Chris into riding the ferris wheel with her. As they walked up, the clerk there smiled and said, "Well look at you two. There's a match you don't see often. Climb aboard." Chris blushed at the man's words. "Erm, we-" Was all he said before Rebecca pushed him in the cart, whispered something to the man, then got in herself. The ride moved on and they began ascending.
Chris wasn't expecting what happened. When they reached the top of the ferris wheel, the whole thing just lurched and stopped. Rebecca looked nervous. She moved her body slightly to grab hold of Chris' arm. "Oh jeez... i HATE heights!!!" She said, clutching Chris' arm tighter. Chris looked over at Rebecca. He was blushing at how close she was. 'This complicates my matters... i was trying to think about my answer to Jack... but how can i agree, and ruin my chances with her?' Chris smiled lightly and wrapped his arm around Rebecca. She looked up, astonished. "Everything'll be fine..." As he said this, the ferris wheel started up again and the passengers began getting off. Rebecca let go and they finally got off. Marcus was waiting for them. "That looked fun. Now let's get outta here... these people are getting lovey dovey." Marcus looked like the love would make him puke again. "Yeah, let's get going." And they left, leaving chris with second thoughts about his offer.
