I came back from barcelona a few days ago. I;ve been around this holiday, first lanzarote and then barcelona. It's fun :D
The barcelona holiday was a very unlikely surprise because a) dad came a long and b) he's the one who actually suggested it and sorted it all out. Emily came along too, because we ended up selling our leeds fest tickets >.> It wasn't going to be easy with just the two of us going, especially seeing as it would have been our first festival. So she came on holiday too C:
We stayed in a flat in the city, near the sagrada familia. The weather was hot, there was a heatwave. It's a really nice city, very busy, but there are all these sanctuaries of green. Little playgrounds and parks and stuff. And there are normally trees down the avenues. The public transport is really efficient, cheap and air conditioned. They even have this bike system where you can...use bikes, and them put them back in their rack things....like a permanent bike rental.
We did lots of walking around and looked and the lovely buildings. There was also the gracia festival on, which had lotst of streets all dressed up and music at night. On the last night, there was a crazy firework parade which was baisically a load of pyromaniacs dressed as devils with pitchforks decorated with fircrackers and cathrine wheels, which they shoved into the dense crowd. It would NEVER have been allowed in england, it would break the health and safety regulations. We also visited the magic fountain, which was truley magical. It was massive, and the water changed shape and colours and....you have to see it to appreciate it really. All the mechanics were the originals from 1929 when it was built for the world fair.
I had some delicious icecream too. The best were violet flavour and poppy flavour. There was one icecream parlour where they crafed the icecream into flowers. Another icecream combo I had was dark chocolate, banana and toffee. Very nice C:
I had lots of fun swimming in the swimming pools and in the sea. We went to a beach in sitches once, and the water was so shallow. You could just keep on going out and you'd still be touching the bottom.
I think the best parts of the holiday were when we walked around and just saw where it took us. That's how we found this beatiful mast shop, the icecream flower shop and a big sweetie shop.
