Winter
Outside these cave walls, The breath of souls screech by like nails on a chalkboard, The frozen tears of glorious angels fall like bullets from a thousand guns, The bite of lifeless terror waits to penetrate my bones with incapacitating cold, And all life hides within their shelters and waits for time to pass. But I, I watch the beauty of the dancing white and black Intertwined together in magnificent battles unseen by many eyes Winding in and out of bare trees, whipping by the entrance of my sanctuary, And resting on the dark ground, covering it in a sheet of pure white pearls. Yes, I watch the show put on by Hades to please his saddened bride Watch his futile attempts to capture his young wife’s heart with all his lifeless beauties And I know, never will he succeed although he has once a year forever, to try And try and try. So I will enjoy these nights and days from the comfort of my cave, With the soft beat of a heart And the rush of warm blood through veins beneath my fingertips And the knowledge that the one I love is with me Not out of bindings or out of fears But because of an overflowing waterfall of unexplainable emotion. So spite me Hades, Fling your furies of fractured ice against my door But as long as I live never will you touch my heart with your glacial fingers, Never will the chill of these months freeze my soul. I will delight in your winter madness In the combat of the snow In the beauties of your failed attempts gain her heart.
