The Day You Slipped Away

Eight Years had passed since Diana had left home. She couldn't stay there anymore...No matter how much she wanted to, how much she longed to be with him again...him and their two wonderful sons.

She had to though. She was dying. Her illness had gotten the best of her not too long after she had little Ion. She would have dizzy spells and black-outs. Her body would ache and tire out so easily. She could barely take care of them. This phantom illness made no sense, not even Seraph could figure it out...

Diana could still remember the last night she had with her family.

She had managed to get out of bed and make it into the kitchen to cook the very best meal she could for Seraph and Tangora. She spent as much time as she could with them, knowing her time was to come very soon. She couldn't bear to just die infront of them.

She wouldn'tbe able to withstand the sad looks they would have when she were to have to go away forever. Leaving her husband, their son and their newborn wifeless and motherless. Of course her leaving would probably still do that but atleast it wouldn't hurt as much as dying infront of them.

Or atleast that's what Diana had felt. Anyway, the night after dinner she had tucked her oldest son into bed, kissing his forehead. She smiled weakly as she brushed his black hair out of his face. He resembled Seraph so much, it was uncanny. Of course that little boy she looked at had his differences. Including his vibrant energy. He was always a rambunctious little boy. Diana's eyes began to water as she looked down at her son's sleeping face.

"I love you, Tangora. So very much... Don't you ever think any different...You're going to have to take care of your father and your little brother while I'm gone...oh...my little boy..." she whispered, pulling his blankets over him a little more. She carefully stood up, looking over at the handmade crib Shao Lon and Ray Lon had built for baby Ion.

She walked over to the sleeping infant and saw he was still awake, just shuffling around in his bed. She smiled faintly and reached in, pulling him up to her chest. She looked down at his small faceand held him close, kissing his little forehead now. The baby looked up at her with his big brown eyes, similar to her own.

Diana rubbed her nose against his tiny one and felt her tears slip down her cheeks. "I'm so sorry Ion...I'm so sorry I have to just leave you all...Oh..I love you so much...Be a good boy for your father and your brother...Grow up well, sweetheart..."

Ion yawned his little fists balling up and rubbing at his eyes. Diana sniffled and gently laid him down, wrapping him up warmly in his blanket. The baby turned over and fell asleep. The mother watched him sleep and then looked back at Tangora.

"I'm sorry..." she said quietly, walking out of the room and closingthe door alittle, leaving a crack for some light to get in. She walked down the hall and stopped at another bedroom. She reached for the knob but hesitated. This was her and Seraph's room. She knew Seraph would be asleep already. Saying goodbye to him would hurt the most.

"Ser--" she quickly clamped a hand over her mouth and closed her eyes tightly, her tears starting to fall more freely. She clenched her teeth and pushed open the door, peeking her head in to make sure he was sleeping already. To her reluctant satisfaction he was.

She made her way in and stopped at the bed, looking down at her husband's face. Her heart sped up and her entire body tensed. She couldn't tell if it was from her illness or from the sorrow she felt welming up inside her heart. It was aching so badly. She was hurting so greatly, she couldn't even find the words to say to him.

Knitting her eyebrows together, she clutched her pendant. It was a special necklace she had since she was a girl. Probably one of her fondest momentos besides her wedding ring. She pulled it off her neck and lightly placed it down on a small table beside Seraph's side of the bed. Her pointed ears drooped as she let her eyes fall back onto Seraph's face.

She loved this man and had spent years with him. He was her best friend, her husband, the father of her sons....her entire world. Her love for him was so strong that leaving him was unbearable. It was unbearable but so was dying on him.

She couldn't hold it in anymore. She let out a whimper and tightly clenched her teeth again, trying to supress her sobs. She then raised her hand and touched the side of Seraph's face.

"I love you. So much...So very, very much....and...I'm sorry I have to leave but...I can't hurt you anymore. I can't bear to hurt you worseby dying infront of you and our boys...Oh Seraph...Please understand...please..." she said softly, leaning over him and lightly kissing his lips. She reeled back and affectiontely, stroked his cheek before wiping at her eyes and forcing herselfout of the room.

When she got to the front door, she looked over her shoulder at her home and then sighed deeply, shutting the door behind her. When she left the village all together, she walked a distance away before coughing violently into her hand, blood soaking herfingers and palm.

She fell to her knees and grasped onto the green grass, her blood soakingthe grass now. She closed her eyes tightly and began crying. Her heart was officially broken. And she could just imagine how worried and upset her family will be when they wake up to find her gone.

Diana sat up in bed and coughed into her hand. Her face was pale and thin. Her eyes lost that shine they use to have, replaced with dark circles around them. She had lost 20 pounds so her body was frail and her hair had some streaks of grey. For some reason she was still grasping onto life. But the way she was now, she still couldn't show her face...her shame...to her husband and their sons.

A door creaked open and a hylian man walked in with a tray filled with a bowl of soup, water, and herbs. He approached her and let his ears droop.

"You alright, Mrs.Gahn?" he asked.

Diana looked up at him and smiled meekly. "Yes,dear, I'm fine...just...under the weather a bit..."

The man smiled and nodded. "Well, Linda made you some soup. I picked the herbs fresh from the garden. Hopefully they'll help your cough and fever," he said, happily.

"Thank you, sweety. And tell your wife I said thank you for the lovely meal," Diana replied.

The man smiled and walked out of the room to give Diana some space. It was lucky for Diana to have stumbled upon this young man and his wife. She had blacked out a year or so ago and woke up to be in this exact same bed.

When she recovered, she tried to leave but they insisted she'd stay. Everytime she tried to leave they'd make her stay, worried about the woman's health.

Diana smiled a little and lifted a spoonfull of soup. As she brought it to her lips, something struck her. Her eyes widened and she dropped her spoon. Something was wrong.

Her heart started to pump faster and a knot formed in her stomach. Her chest began to hurt badly and as she grasped it, she felt it. She felt Seraph. His life...his life was slipping away.

"NO!" she shouted, pushing herself forward. The tray fell over, sending it and the bowl with it's glass crashing down. As the couple entered the room, they found Diana on the ground, trying to get up.

"Diana! What happened!" Linda shouted, concerned.

Diana pushed herself up, limping and trying to get passed them. The man, Allen, grabbed her shoulders and frowned. "Hey! You can't go anywhere in your condition! What if you--"

"Seraph! My boys! I have to get to them!" she yelled, struggling to get out of the room. Allen and Linda looked at one another worriedly.

"Mrs.Gahn please!"

Diana managed to push them aside before making it out of the house. She had to hold onto sturdy objects in order to go faster and keep herself up right.

Once she made it out, she was able to summon up enough strength to walk on her own. She tried walking faster, but fell onto the ground. She winced and pushed herself back up and started walking off again.

After a long while, she had made it back to her old village. It was gone. Diana gasped and forced herself into a sprint. Entering the village, she saw soot and what was left of buildings. There apparently was a large fire, taking the entire village with it.

"No! NO! GOD PLEASE!" she yelled, looking for her old home. Upon finding the location, she didn't see anything much left. She fell onto her knees and stared at the pile of burnt rubble and ashes.

She continued staring blankly at the site. Different images and thoughts raced through her mind at that moment. Her family...they were...they were gone.

Her finger tips dug into the dirt as she continued gawking at the scene. She didn't know what to feel at that moment. Just overwelming shock.

The grey sky began to grow darker before eventually pouring down with rain. Her light brown hair matting to her face, Diana sat for what seemed like hours in front of the former home.

"S-Seraph...Tangora...oh...Ion..." she muttered, her eyes filled with so much sorrow. They were gone.

"Oh no! We're all dead!"

Diana's ears twitched a bit before looking over at what looked like orbs. "Orbs...?" she asked. She then quickly frowned and held onto herself, beginning to weep.

"Ion killed us all!"

"Ah! He killed Seraph! Not Tangora!"

"He did?! Oh no!"

"Ion and Tangora ran off!"

"Ah!"

"Maybe we should tell that lady over there!"

"Ah! That's Diana! Hey guys! It's Diana!"

"Yay! Diana! You came back! But we're dead now!"

"Ah! We are! But why can't we find Seraph?!"

"He must've went to Heaven! Oh no! Now what!?"

Diana overheard their conversation and quickly looked back at them. Her boys were alive...but...Ion killed Seraph? And the entire village? Thats absurd! He would only be eight years of age and more importantly he would never do that!

"But Seraph...Seraph is gone...and he...he's not coming back as a spirit....I...I won't ever see him again..." she said sadly. Her earsdrooped once more before she bgean to cry again.

"Oh Seraph...I...I shouldn't have left...this is my fault...This is all my fault! Seraph...SERAPH! COME BACK! SERAAAAPH!!!" she screamed as loud as she could.

She clutched her chest and cried out loudly. "Seraph! Please come back! Please! I need you! I love you! You can't be gone! YOU CAN'T!" she continued to yell.

The orbs watched silently as they all floated around her.

"SERAPH!!!"

"....Dammit Jeffrey!"

"Look what you did, Jefferey!"

"Ah! I'm sorry,you guys!"
