Lewis: Age 4
Que: Age 2
"Ewis! Ewis!" The little girl waved, running up to him handing him the small seashell. "Ook Ewis!" she giggled.
"Thats great Que!" Lewis laughed as he took the small shell from her and placing it into the small red and yellow bucket. "That one was pretty! Go find another one."
"Okay!" She turned away and ran some ways in front of him looking down at the shallow water of the ocean.
Lewis looked over at the setting sun over the ocean. He smiled seeing dolphins swimming and jumping out of the beautiful water. The light caught the small speckles of water that came out with them. Like little diamonds turning into stars. He knew it was going to get cold soon. He looked over at his little sister and waved her jacket. "Que! You need to put this on!" he shouted as he ran over to her.
Que was much shorter than he was. He always took good care of his little sister. He loved his little sister with all his heart. She had matching green eyes and bright orange hair. Compared to his dark skin, hers was pale, and bright. She looked adorable in her pink two peice swimsuit.
Que ran over quickly waving her hand. "Ook! Ook Ewis!" she held her hand out to him, showing the bright blue seashell. "Its pwetty!" she giggled.
Lewis blinked at it and smiled. "It sure is! This one is a keeper!" He raised it up to the last of the sunlight and watched it gleam. "It's beautiful Que."
"YAY!" she through her hands up into the air at that. "Pwetty shell!"
Lewis chuckled at her. "Look, its getting cold Que, put your jacket on." he put it into his pocket and held the jacket up to her so that all she had to do was slip her arms through.
She nodded and slipped her arms through. He zipped up her jacket with ease and smiled. "Good job." he hugged her and then picked up the bucket. "Ready to go home?" He raised a brow at her.
"No! I wanna see stars!" she pouted.
Lewis rubbed the back of his head at that. If they got back too late, his dad would have something to say. "Well..."
"Pwease!" she hopped a bit. "I wanna see!" she gave him sad eyes.
Lewis sighed at that. "Alright." he smiled halfheartedly. "Only for tonight."
"YUSH!" she hugged him. "Ank you Ewis!"
Lewis chuckled at that and sat down on the beach. The two siblings looked off at the sunset and watched it finally disappear intothe grey clouds. Soon, the earth vanished before the two kids. The stars were on earth. They were sitting on the Milky Way, staring out at the galaxy's next door.
They stayed there for a while, till Lewis snapped himself back into reality, "Come on, Dad's going to be mad at me."
Que nodded at that and stood up with him. "I hope not too mad...."
~~~~~~
The house around the street.
The house no one would want to live in, but Lewis and Que, they never really cared.
They always ran away to the beach. As long as dad and ma knew, there was never any problem. But there would be tonight.
"God damnit Lewis!"
*SMACK* across the boy's face.
"Cassius!" Their mother jumped up to grab him. "What is wrong with you?! Their okay, aren't they?!"
"Stay out of this Cal."
Calpurnia. His mother had a beautiful name. It rolled off his tounge easily.
"Now answer me Lewis!" he pulled the boy away from his mother by the collar. "Why didn't you bring her home earlier?! You know she gets sick easily!"
"Sh..She wanted to see the stars......Over the ocean....." he shivered. He was terrorfied of his father. He hated when he didn't do something right. There was always something coming his way.
"She can see the stars here! Why would she have to see them over the ocean?! She's ******** two Lewis! She doesn't know the difference!" He hit him again.
Blood trinkled down his chin.
"Cassius stop!" Cal reached out for her son, but he pushed her back down.
"Stay out of this! This is between me and him!" he growled.
His dad was a monster in his eyes. He hated that he and his sister inherited his hair, his eye color. They both had nothing in common with their mother. He wished he had bright blond hair like his mothers. It was better than having the flame of his father sitting on his head.
Que was in the back room crying. She didn't understand what was going on, but knew Lewis was hurt.
"Go shut her up Cal." he looked back down at his son.
Cal nodded sadly and looked back at her son. "I'm so sorry Lewis...." she mumbled as she walked into Que's room, hugging her tightly.
"Alright Daddy....*SMACK*....I'm sorry *SMACK*....It won't happen aga- *SMACK* "
"It better not ******** happen again! Your five! Not two like her! If you ******** like her so much, you need to be more responsible."
Lewis nodded as he wiped his bloddy and bruised face. "Yes sir..."
"Now get to bed....." He shrugged and went back to his kitchen table.
"Yes sir....I love you daddy...." he mumbled as he walked out of the room and into his. Another long, crying night for Lewis.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Que sleeped in the small bed next to his. He looked straight at his wall, which was covered in pictures of surfers and oceans. He wanted to learn to surf so bad. It looked so fun when the older kids would jump in the water and ride the waves for hours on end. It was an amazing thing to watch. The twist and turns, the pictures of the tunnels were amazing as well. No surfer can describe what its like. He wanted to see it one day. Maybe he would get lost in it and never come back home. Never.
It was quite for the most part. The only thing that could be heard was his mother and father's moans. He had no idea what they were doing, but he knew it wasn't something to walk in on. He tried his best to go to sleep, but his face hurt too much. Whenever the sun was to rise to wake everyone up, it would be time for his dad to give him the whole "What do you tell your teacher?" speech. "I had a bully beat me up" That was his answer.Always his answer.
When his parents where done with whatever they were doing, he thought it was now a good time to go to sleep. But that was when he felt something climb into his bed. He rolled over to meet the bright green eyes of his sister. She had been crying.
"Que? Whats the matter?" he whispered.
"Ewis....Urt?"
Urt.....Hurt.....
"No, I'm fine, don't worry about me." he patted her head. "Go to bed, alright?" Tears whelped in his eyes seeing his little sister like this.
"Okay...." she sniffled whiping her eyes.
"Go to bed Que." he kissed her forhead and layed back down.
"Okay...I'm sowwy...." she layed back in her bed.
Lewis heard her sobs slowly die. Que and his Ma were the only good people in the house. He was greatful for the two. He didn't know what he would do without the two.
