Chapter 9- Remember Forver

I opened my eyelids, as I felt the sun coming through the window, hitting my face. I turned my body around, and saw that Maya wasn't there. Maybe she went to her favorite place to calm down. My pillow was still damp from my tears that I shed last night. Dammit. I turned the pillow on it's other side. No wonder my nose was stuffed. I fixed my bed, and went to the door. Another day of doing nothing. Hurrah.

I was walking slowly to the waterfall, and listened to the water running. It was surprisingly very calming. I came to the running water, and saw no one there. Well, so much for that. Maybe Maya was going to the market to get more food. Sure, we live in a forest, far away from civilization, but we need to get our food somehow, and it's only about an hour walk away. We get money from selling the herbs and berries that grow naturally around this forest, and not much around anywhere else.

I sat on the grassy area that the person placed me on the other night, and pulled my knees to my chest. Life here wasn't so bad I suppose. It might have been worse. I placed my head on my knees. I could feel myself dozing off, from the natural surroundings, and the sounds. It was beautiful here, actually. And having only two people to take care of is a lot easier, than if it was with a larger family. I hoped Maya got some strawberries. They were always delicious around this time of year. Maybe some blue berries too. They didn't grow wild around this area sadly, and as you may be able to tell I really like them...

"Hello?" A voice called to me, waking me up from my day dream

"..huh?" I looked at the person, my eyes still not fully awake

"What the?! Your eyes are exactly like hers!" the voice cried out to me. He took a step forward as if trying to get a better look.

"Excuse me?" I asked, standing up. Did this person already know Maya?

"Y-your eyes. Are you blind too?" his face went darker

"What? You mean Maya?" I took a small step back, not knowing if he was playing games with me or something.

He just stared at me awkwardly, as if signaling a yes. I relaxed a little bit and let out a sigh.

"You know my older sister, how?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Older sister?" he repeated, shocked. She probably didn't say anything about me to him. "We, met the field, a few days ago.." his voice trailed off. I wonder... maybe he fancied her?

"Oh. I see." I gave a small laugh. He wasn't too bad. Much better than Nick ever was.

"Anyway, what do you want with her?" I asked, slightly glaring at him

"Um.. I was.. um.. Looking for her" He was shifting in his boots uncomfortably. Yup. He really liked her.

"Sorry, I don't think she's here right now, but I'm Candace, her little sister. Nice to meet you" I said, holding my hand out. May as well befriend my sister's future boyfriend.

"Hi. I'm Jason." he replied, shaking my hand.

"Do you know where she is?" He whispered, as if he was afraid she was going to hear him

"Yeah, I think she went to the market to get some food. She should be back soon" I glanced up at the sky. It must be close to noon now.

"If you want, you can come back to the hut to wait for her" I offered to him.

"Hut?" he asked, looking shocked

"Well, we have to live somewhere. Don't we?" I began walking in the direction of the hut.

"I guess so.." he replied and followed me.

"So, where are you from?" I asked. It was just too silent

".. The Fire village" he replied, trying to keep up with my speed

"Oh.. Cool" I replied, as we I could see the hut in the far distance.

So this was the guy Maya seemed to day dream about, eh? I half smiled, as I knew what I had to do.

I'm going to set them up.

"Hey, where are you?" I called to Maya, to where ever she may be

"I'm by the church. I'll be there soon" she replied back to me. This was going to be awesome.

"Ah, Okay. I'm going to the waterfall to swim a bit, then." I replied, and turned my attention back to Jason.

"She'll be here soon.. I have to run a few errands, so just sit tight here for now." I said, going into the bed room and getting my dark blue swim suit, and a matching towel.

I placed it into my blue bag, and closed the door as I left the room. Not that I was actually going to go swimming.. I innerly snickered, and walked out with my light blue bag.

"Okay.." he did look sort of uncomfortable.. Oh well.

I went out side, and walked behind a few trees. What animal to change into.. I paused and turned into a bird

I flew to the window sill, and rested there, until I saw Maya walking through the trees. I wanted to laugh, as she walked into the hut, and stared down at Jason, completely shocked.

"W-what are you doing here!?" She stuttered, bewildered.

"Your sister invited me!" he cried, looking frightened. Poor guy.

"My.. Sister?" Her voice shook with annoyance. Oops.

Candace, if you can hear me, your SO dead!" she cried to me.

Yup. I was dead.

"Well, since she went out, would you like to stay for dinner?" she asked and put the bags down, sitting next to him. I tried peering into them, seeing what she got. With no avail, I looked back at the 'couple'. The mood seemed kind of.. awkward. I sighed.

"So.. What brings you around here?" Maya asked, getting herself comfortable

"Oh, I was just checking on.. on.." his trail cut off, and his face went a darker shade. Red, I would assume.

"...Things?" Maya finished his sentence for him.

He just nodded. There was a slight pause.

I flew to the waterfall. They should have their alone time, since I had been ease dropping for some of the conversation, even if it was oddly awkward.
I smiled at how cute they were together, like they were made for one another. I shifted back to my human form, and changed into my swim suit, and walked behind the waterfall. This was the best place to think . I took a step into the cold water, sinking down slowly. I needed to cool my face down before I saw them again. I let myself float in the water, closing my eyes. Their weren't any currents behind here, and the rushing water wasn't so loud as it was in front. It was very nice, actually. I made a few laps around the mini pool, and dozed off into my own thoughts. What was I dreaming of? Well.. You'll find out eventually.

I opened my eyes, and got out of the water. It was freezing outside. I grabbed my towel that was in my bag, and wrapped myself in it. I looked around, and realized that I could barely see.

"Ah, Crap." I thought to myself, and dried off. I quickly changed, and put my normal outfit back on, wrapping my hair in the towel. I had to get back to the house quickly. I ran back on the familiar root to the hut, my hair still dripping wet.

I changed into a bird again, and sat on the window sill that I was on before. The mood still seemed kind of... awkward. Guess I didn't miss anything too fantastic.

"Oh, The food is ready" Maya said, a bit jumpy. She reached for the drawer that we usually kept the plates, bowls, and cutlery in, and handed a spoon to Jason. She must of made her awesome soup again. It didn't really have a name, besides "Soup". They ate in silence. Seriously, what happend to that romantic setting? I sighed and wish I could be eating. I looked at the sky, and now it was almost pitch black, just giving my enough light to see what was happening.

Maya all of a sudden stood up, and walked to our room, placing the bowl of soup on the ground. Jason looked taken aback, but he stood up and followed her, putting his bowl a bit away from her's. Maybe they were going onto the deck. I flew around back, and stood on a tree, just out of their view. So they were on the deck. I snickered, and waited for my perfect moment. There was a silence, and Jason spoke out to her.

"I love how you can see the stars out here, at night time.. Its nearly impossible to see them back from my own town" he said, looking at the night sky.

".. Yet, I can't see them" Maya replied, looking down at the wooden deck

"Ah, I'm sorry, Maya!" His face looked pained, and he hugged her. So cute.

There was a short silence.

"How.. how did you and your sister become blind?" he asked, taking a half step back

Maya took a breath, as if she knew he was going to ask that question.

"My sister and I lived in a small villages, always moving around, and we were attacked by some men dressed in full black.." she paused, remembering every detail. I rode on the memory train with her.

"We were running away from them, but we got caught, and we were taken away from our village, to a camp, sort of thing. We were taken to a large tent, where we met the leader there. Trust me, he isn't be best man out there." She took another breath.

"We tried to escape from him.. but some other men caught us, and we went to another tent. One you would probably keep a prisoner in. There was a man there.. A wizard, if you please. The leader got him to cast a spell, to make my sister and I blind, but only to an extent where we can see only in white, and outlines of others. You get used to it after a while" she ended the memory. He looked like he was never going to move again.

I took this moment to activate my plan. I shifted into a blue firefly, and beckoned to other fireflies around the area to join me. We all fluttered around, making little lights, trying to make a romantic scene. Some of the fireflies gave off a yellow dust, and bright as the sun, some others purple, and a small portion of us a blue dust, as if it was water droplets, coming off a silent waterfall. You could hear the tinkling of a small stream near by, in the background. I could only hope it was romantic enough for them.

"I'm.. I'm sorry. I didn't mean for you to get upset." he looked at her face

"What are you talking about? I'm fine" she simply replied back.

"No.. Your crying" he replied, and took her face into his hands, using his thumbs to wipe the tears away. They stared into each others eyes for a few seconds and he brought his lips down onto hers. Maya closed her eyes. I smiled at the scene. This was something I was going to remember forever.
