Ever since El reached out to him and became his first friend, Ray is determined to love El forever. Up till now, Ray is still very much in love with his best friend. However, El is still the source of much of his headache.
1) Ray is trapped by the guilt of leaving El to die during the Tainted Mask incident.
2) Being a mage, Ray is best at ranged attacks. And having locked himself up with books resulted in him having a weak body. It annoys Ray very much for El to ask him to "stand back", and be protected just because El is stronger than him, and is much better skilled in swords.
3) El is very innocent. He doesn't understand that Ray didn't want to be just "best friends". But just as long as El doesn't object to all the hugging and kissing, Ray wouldn't mind.... much.
4) Ever since being a "weapon" for the dark, El now fears the dark A LOT. El always needs a bit of light around him to chase away his fears and nightmares, especially at night, when he is sleeping. So far, the only solution Ray has found was to cuddle El tight each night, his warmth making the poor child forgot, even if it is temporary, his painful past.
Then there's Ray's family problems:
Problem number 1: Ray's sister is a Dark General. Due to El's trauma, he now fears th dark a lot. Anything related to the dark would send El cowering to a corner in fear. So El fears Rena. Worse still, Rena was the one who dragged El to the then Dark General when she found him bleeding to death in the Undertown during the incident. Ever since finding out about that, Ray's relationship with his sister got so bad, that they would immediately attack each other when they meet.
Problem number 2: Ray's father is a shadow general. The shadows sphere of magics is the union of dark and light magics, but apparently, El fears it too. When Ray finally meets his father for the first time since his kidnapping when he was young, El was shaking very badly from his fear. So, Ray doesn't like his father very much, leaving his poor father in confusion.
Problem number 3: Ray's mother, after losing him when he was young, is now very protective of her son. After meeting El, and hearing for his past, she began pampering El too, caring for him like her own son. Though his mother does make beautiful dresses for El, Ray is jealous about how close the two are.
