Ray Family: Father, Mother, Twin sister Major Events: Kidnapped Ray and his twin sister, Rena, were mentioned in the Oracle's Dream, to be the "Children of Hope", able to put a halt to the conflict the land would soon face. When the Oracle woke, she wrote the dream down as a Prophecy. Foreseeing the conflict, she kidnapped Ray and Rena when they were still young children, and forced them to train everyday, to prepare them for their role in life. Ray was forced to train in Lightning magics, which he had an affinity with, while Rena is to train in swords. Living with them is another kidnapped child, who practiced his skills with Rena. Believing melee combat to be superior, Rena often bullied Ray, who grew more and more withdrawn each day. He started locking himself in the library all day, believing that books are his friends, and that books will never hurt him.
Mage Academy When they are old enough, the Oracle sent Ray to the Mage Academy to further his skills, and Rena to the Swords Academy. Being a odd child, keeping to himself all the time, he had no friends in this foreign place. All he knew to shut out everything else is to bury himself under piles and piles of books.
Meeting El Ray admitted it, he was lonely. Very lonely. He never knew how to reach out to others, and others never noticed his yearn for companionship. Till one day, a whirlwind of red came and turned his life somewhat upside down. El just appeared out of nowhere, grabbed him, and dragged him all over the place. When questioned, El simply answered, "You seemed too lonely", with a bright innocent smile on his face. From then, in El's words, they are "friends". He had no say in the decision. Not that he minded it much. It was the first time he had a friend, a strange one in fact, and the first time he felt warmth in his heart. He swore that he would never let that beautiful smile disappear from El's face.
Attachment Ray's magics grew as the days passed, till one day, it was decided by the magics council that he is ready to "go out and work", in El's terms. He was sent for an attachment to Luce's house, a budding fire mage, to train her. As this Luce girl stays near the Mage Academy, Ray often goes back to see El during the weekends. One day, Luce was out in the Undertown to play. The Undertown is a dangerous place, one where all kinds of magics come to life, where danger, and fun, lurks at every corner. On this day, Luce was unlucky enough to chance upon one of the dangerous element, the Tainted Mask. It was a group that demands live sacrifices on special occasions, and Luce just pranced along on a very special day. She was captured, and tied up, to be sacrificed in a very bloody ritual. Ray got wind of this, and ran to the Undertown, seeking his charge. On the way, he ran into El (literally). He dragged El with him to help. They managed to free Luce after much... blasting of everything, spells, chopping of people, etc. However, the Tainted Mask was unwilling to let their prey off so easily. One member threw a dagger, a poisoned one at Luce. Apparently, he had really bad aim (might be brought about by sever blood loss), and hit El on the waist instead (the wound is still there...). El fell on the spot. In fear, Ray grabbed Luce and fled from the scene, without even checking on his friend. This resulted in much guilt that he had left a dear friend to die. He kept blaming himself for it.
Poison Dagger After the incident, with much discussion, Luce and her parents agreed to end Ray's attachment to them. They felt that Ray had done a good enough job in training Luce, and that he need time alone to to calm down. So Ray went back to the Mage Academy, with his mind blank, traumatised by the event. On his way back, he went back to the place where Luce was captured. Blood stains can still be seen on the ground, but there is no trace of El. All that's left was the dagger, which is strangely left on the ground, untouched. Ray kept that dagger to remind himself of his cowardice.
Master Mage Back at the Mage Academy, Ray once more buried himself under more books. Just as long as they spoken of magics, he would read through them, and absorb them quickly. Tomes and tomes of ancient magics, he hungered for them to fill the gapping wound in his heart. His teachers began to fear him, for his magics grew at a frightening rate. Soon, he even mastered the spell for Familiar Casting, which allows for a mage to create and give life to a familiar. Once thought to be one of the toughest spells for mages, Ray mastered it in less than a year. He created a Familiar, a lightning dragon. He had wanted to recreate his friend, but realised it is impossible when the dragon, instead of El, was born. Disgusted with himself, he set the dragon free. It is still alive till this day, and can morph to a human form. Knowing of this, the council in the Mage Academy deemed Ray too dangerous to stay in the academy, so they gave him the title of a Master Mage, and sent him away....
