The book is much more interesting rather than the movie. Although, for those who prefer watching than reading, the book is rather good as well. Comparisons between the movie and the book.
For those who have read the book and watched the movie, you might say that the book is much more better seeing that it is much more detailed and much more imaginative than the movie. The Venetian setting is perfect for two boys who had runaway from their dreadful aunt and uncle. The dark alleys and the canals everywhere you see, old theaters and cinemas locked down, and the winged lions in the beautiful Basilica San Marco or more commonly known as St. Mark's square.
Comparisons:
1. In the book, Scipio Massimo, had long raven black hair. As to Scipio in the movie played by Rollo weeks, the short hair with somewhat bangs.
2. Ernesto Barbarossa's red beard in the book did not appear in the movie. Just a fat man with out a beard.
3. In the book, Ida and Victor did not know each other. However, in the movie, Victor knew Ida before Victor knew the children.
4. When Ernesto turned into a kid, in the book, it was Esther, Bo and Prosper's aunt, who went to Ida. In the movie, it was Ida who went to Esther's hotel room.
5. There were some parts in the book that wasn't shown in the movie. Just like the part when Victor called Dottore Massimo to have a meeting or the part when Ida dropped Scipio a few blocks from his house.
6. The positive comparison is the setting and shooting was perfect. The Basilica San Marco shooting was one of my favorite part. It was spooky, scary yet so, beautiful. The structure of the Cathedral was wonderful, beautiful and perfect.
