Both Barack Obama and Joe Biden support Network Neutrality, which is an idea that would help ensure that broadband carriers will not abuse their power in the market. Currently, there are not proper laws in place that would keep them from controlling our activity online and blocking us from their competitor's websites and applications. Network providers are able to make it so that they can charge websites for the speed that their website runs for that network's subscribers.
Sadly, John McCain does not support Network Neutrality, but he seems to flipflop on that topic. In a radio interview last year, McCain was asked where he stood on the subject, to which he replied that its important that one big money player doesn't crowd out everyone, and that it's a hard subject and we must take a look at it. Later, he was asked directly if he was opposed to it and he stated “Look, I go back and forth on the issue, it's a very hard issue, and I continue to take a look at it”.I don't think McCain has really looked into the issue, and thats a real shame because I think it is very important that we get these laws in place. Just recently, a lawsuit was filed against Comcast by the FCC for “throttling and blocking traffic based on the BitTorrent protocol”. Which means that they placed a 250 GB per month cap on data transfers via BitTorrent, forcing top users to “curb their usage”.
