Happiness…
What is happiness?
Is it a state of well being,
Like the dictionaries say it is?
Is it an emotion?
Is it just a word?
Is it a psychological state?
Or is it the effect
Of that ultimate medicine, laughter?
Maybe it’s a gift from God?
Whatever it is, one thing is certain:
It takes on many forms.
Also, many things bring about the thing known as happiness.
Food makes the hungry being happy,
Whereas happiness takes the form of the food.
Money given to a man so as to buy what he wants or needs makes him happy,
Whereas happiness takes on the look and shape of money.
A boy helping a girl who dropped her books makes the girl happy,
Whereas the boy has become happiness.
An uncle playing with his nephew makes both the nephew and the uncle happy,
Whereas happiness has put on the costume of their playing together.
A boy kissing the girl whom he loves and who loves him back makes them both happy,
Whereas their kiss has donned the armor of happiness.
A mother holding her newborn child is happy,
Whereas the child has become the vessel of happiness.
Happiness has found a new definition.
It is a spirit that lives in this world,
Possessing everyone and taking on many different forms.
It is a gift to human kind.
It’s one of the helpers and keepers of life.
