And now for something completely different...
...or as different as a damned blog can be, anyway. It started out as a project, it devolved into a chronicling of my misanthropy, rage, and occasional fits of glee. It sounds good, though, and might even make you laugh.
In which I am an old lolcat

Okay, I know this is going to sound like the lead-up to the "we walked 20 miles to school, in 10 feet of snow, uphill both ways, and we were GRATEFUL" speech, but seriously, what the ********, kids? Apart from a couple we lovingly nicknamed the Baboon's a**-- who had probably come from ze ould cauntry together-- no one I knew in high school was ever "engaged." This is even with an incredible high-maintenance b***h population that had some serious delusions of Disney-Princess grandeur; their unfortunate boyfolk would drop Dad's credit on expensive rings, but there was no confusion that they were for any purpose other than metaphorical headhunting. But now, suddenly, it's cool to be engaged! With little or no effort, you can scan LI on any given day and find a thread about being engaged at 15, or see 16-year-olds mentioning their "feonce" in posts. I say again, what the ********? I mean, we stop playing house because it's childish, but then start it again a few years later because it's going to make us look grown up? I can't account for this, and in all seriousness it hasn't been so long that I'm out of touch; not having fake engagements is not exactly up there with eight-tracks on the "things that only old people remember" list. I am stupefied and, to borrow a phrase from a very unfortunate waiter, I weep for the future. gonk

Oh God, it is, but only in the "fun" ways. Like, they want to have the big fancy party with the poofy dress and presents, but they don't want to have jobs so they can pay for the house, the giant TV with three game systems, and the car they'll smash up because they keep flunking drivers' ed. All the freedom, none of the responsibility. I sort of wish I could be there to see it all crash and burn, except they'd probably spot me and demand that I pay their rent. gonk
