Today is the big day. The goslings came! I have waited for them for sooo long. When we got to Farm & Fleet, I saw ducklings first, then I saw my goslings. They were big! At least compared to the ducklings they were with. But their beaks were small compared to their bodies. That was something odd that I noticed. I couldn't resist holding one as Mom was driving up to the farm. They are so adorable and squishy with their big soft chests. When I put my hand in the box, they all nibbled on my fingers.
Still, they are rightfully Lucy's. When we went in the back to where Lucy was nesting, I had to take her eggs out first before I put the goslings in. She managed to really bite my finger. When I put the goslings in, all Lucy was concerned with were her missing eggs. She didn't pay attention to the goslings. Finally, we took an egg outside, broke it, and returned the shell to her. She nibbled the inside of the shell, apparently trying to figure out what happened. We decided to leave her and the goslings alone for a while.
We went to check in on the turkeys, who spend their first night in the now-finished T-coop*. Instead of sleeping on their perches, they slept on the shelf. Luckily, Mom put down a tarp the night before, which caught all the crap. For only one day, there sure was a lot of it. We opened the hatch door to let them out into the run and went down to the chickens.
It was snuggle-time down there. First, I got Marcie, Stella, Sophie, Fudgie, Rudy, and Maple to snuggle up with me. Then Earl and Simba came up. Even King sat on my leg. That one surprised me. I removed a huge toe-ball from Maple. I'm surprised it wasn't giving her trouble. Powder's sitting again. Florian is surprisingly tame. I was easily able to hold and pet him.
After the chores, we went down to see Lucy again. As I was walking into the barn, I noticed that there was no quacking. Either that was a very good sign, or a very bad one. As we looked in on Lucy, Mom and I were relieved to see that the goslings were snuggled under her wing. I'm so happy for her.
Mr. Burby is still at home. Luckily, he's recovering fast. Burby and Milty are getting along fine. I learned that Milt likes to snuggle under the covers. Such an adorable bird.
