I FINALLY took a vacation. Or, I didn't really take it myself, I went with my uncle and cousin to San Antonio. Joy. Here, I shall .. recite.. what all we did?
Day 1
We drove down to San Antonio, leaving at around 11:00 AM, planning to get there in the early evening with enough time to perhaps sightsee. The trip would supposedly take around 5 hours from Denton, but that's when we hit 5:00 traffic just south of Austin. So we finally pulled into town around 7:00, but not before stopping by the Natural Bridge Caverns, which just so happened to close in 20 minutes, so we decided not to go after all.
We hung out at the hotel room, me and my cousin in one room, my uncle in another. My other aunt and her boyfriend were supposed to meet us for supper that evening and stay at the hotel with us, so we had to kill time until they got there. (They were driving in from Houston, and they hit traffic, too).
So anyway, around 8:30 or so they get there and we go eat at Olive Garden. I had the Chicken Parmigiana (what I usually get at any Italian restaurant) and plenty of that garlic bread they bring. By the time we left, it was too late at night to go anywhere else, so we went back to the hotel, got all ready for bed, and watched TV for an hour or so.
That night was TERRIBLE. My cousin and I had to share a bed, and it turns out she's a very clingy sleeper. Now, I wouldn't have minded this, if she didn't wiggle so much. I probably had a grand total of around 3 hours of sleep thanks to her incessant squirming..
Day 2
We had decided during supper that today (if the weather was agreeable) we would be going to Fiesta Texas. For those that don't know, Fiesta Texas = MAJOR AMUSEMENT PARK. 'Tis Six Flags, but this one has the Hurricane Harbour section built right in instead of separate. Anyway, we stayed there most of the day. I'm happy to say, I rode one rollar coaster, and even that wasn't a big one. It was some lame log ride that kind of reminded me of Splash Mountain from Disney World.
As the evening rolled in, we went back to the hotel, changed into some decent clothes, and went to the Riverwalk to eat supper. Now, let me just say, the Riverwalk was awesome. It's like a long chain of restaurants and stores along this river that went through San Antonio. We ourselves ate at Hard Rock Cafe, and that's now become my new favorite restaurant, and those that've eaten at one know why. Plus, the waiter was hot, and he was quite friendly and joking, and I love it when you find waiters like that. I mean, some of 'em are just so .. annoyed? I can't think of a good description of them. If you're a waiter or waitress, be nice and friendly with your customers, they'll love you for it.
Anyway, enough about food service. After eating, we walked along the river until we came upon the one.. the only..
THE ALAMO.
For those that haven't seen it in real life, it's not that tan-ish colour you'd expect from adobe-brick-ish substances. It's white. I dunno if it became that colour when they revamped it, but it's white. And it's a lot smaller than most would expect. And! It's right in the middle of the city. So here's this old-ish looking building surrounded by skyscrapers. It was kind of saddening, really..
While we were on the square surrounding the Alamo, we spotted two museums we'd later come back to see.
That night was better, Camber (my cousin) slept in my aunt's bed instead of mine, so I had a nice, pleasant sleep.
Day 3
Today was the day I was looking forward to... SCHLITTERBAHN! For those who don't know, Schlitterbahn is an ENORMOUS water park.
There's not really much to say about it.. it was really crowded for a Tuesday, but the lines went fairly quickly. The river water was very, very cold, and the chlorinated water was very, very chlorinated. But it was very, very fun. I think I used enough 'very's.
According to my aunt, all the guys were checking me out. Woot? Too bad none of them were cute.. x_@
Around 5 o'clock, we started back to San Antonio (for Schlitterbahn was around 20 miles north, in New Braunfels), and stopped by a Chick-Fil-A to change into regular clothes. Feeling guilty, we also bought drinks.
We parked in the same parking garage as we did for the Riverwalk, and went to the two museums on the square by the Alamo. These consisted of... a world-famous Wax Museum and a Ripley's BELIEVE IT OR NOT! museum.
The Wax Museum was freaky: I kept expecting them to come alive and move. Really, I did. That's how good they were. The Ripley's part was pretty awesome, and I learned a lot from it. Like, how you make a Shrunken Head. They had a real one in there. I gagged after realizing that used to be a normal person.
I made a Wax Hand as a souvenir, and it got kinda messed up where my thumb was, but i'ssal good.
That night Camber and I had separate beds (since my aunt and her boyfriend left earlier that day).
Day 4
We left early in the morning and got back home that afternoon. I did a victory dance of being home away from all annoyances.
---
And that's it! If you read it all, I congradulate you.
