Went out to the coop REALLY early today. Jenny was in the pen, (I left the door open last time) so I let her run around outside for a bit while I checked on Lucy. She's eating and drinking and pooping, which are all good signs, but for some reason, her neck is shivering. I'm still pretty worried. I wish it would warm up soon. I learned that Lucy does NOT like salad; which surprised me because she usually grazes. I sat with Jenny in the car for a while. She's become a lot less tame. Gilly's still sitting and wouldn't come out. I hope this is just a passing phase. When I got out to the coop, a few chickens were in the run. As soon as I went in, they begged for food, as always. Today they got cheesy Nachos and a baked potato. I never gave them Nachos before, but I did expect the end result. Totally devoured. Mr. Burby and Skunk are ding well. That S.O.B. Pancake kicked me, and the really annoying thing is that he runs like hell after he kicks he because he knows I'll go after him. Pearl was looking even more ragged than normal, so I asked Mom if I could take her home. Guess who gave in? For some reason, Pearl seemed interested in Mom on the way home. They kept taking glances at each other on the ride back. Mom had to quickly stop at Menard's. Luckily, I got an older man to see Pearl. He smiled, opened his mouth in shock and said to me, "That's new." When we got back, I was curious to see what she'd do with a chick, so I took Star out. For some odd reason, the others were picking on him. At first, it looked like Pearl was getting ready to peck Star, but all she did was stare intently. I re-tried with Goldy, a younger chick. To my surprise, Goldy jumped up and pecked PEARL! I got a good laugh out of that. It's odd how all Pearl does is stare intently at chicks. All they do is ignore her.
I also took some measurements for a sweater, but I honestly don't think I'll go anywhere with it. Sewing's a b***h. Luckily, Mom unearthed a few old sweaters and two In-the-works Sweaters. All of which are too big. Hopefully Pearl can stay for a few days to allow some new feather growth. Tonight the oddest thing happened- Pearl laid a shell-less egg. At first I thought it was just diarrhea, but when I turned the light on, there was a yolk. So I'm keeping a close eye on her for now.
