Kittens! And computers.
I may or may not have previously mentioned Menchi, one of my brother's cats. She's probably about four or five now. White, short hair, small boned, sort of wedge-shaped head with oval eyes. My mother's ex got her as a kitten from his secretary, and my mother never got her fixed. She wanted her to have kittens one day. Skip forward to something over a year ago, the summer of 2006, I think. We have five cats. All but Menchi are fixed. Two are mine, three are my brother's, and that's just fine. We think about adopting just one more sometimes, but we're usually content with our five cats. My mom and brother go to a party their Tae Kwon Do teacher holds every year, and they come back with a tabby kitten and a bag of kitten food. Not a very young kitten, but not quite a "teenage" cat, either. We decide he's everybody's cat, I name him Loki, and I tell Mom we at least need to get either Menchi or Loki fixed, because Loki will be able to father kittens before long. She never did. Three or four months ago, I started to suspect that Menchi might be pregnant. Two or three months ago, I was sure she was. Five weeks ago, she had three kittens. I really didn't want it to happen, but it is kind of fun having kittens again. Except that Menchi and the kittens have to stay shut in my room, and Menchi tries to cover her waste with the wall beside the box instead of the litter so I have to wake up and cover it for her, and the kittens can now run, jump, scratch, and bite. They can climb up onto my couch and try to play with my face while I'm sleeping. They can climb up my pants. Today, the oldest kitten learned that human food smells good, so he climbed up my pants and shirt and cried and sniffed at my mouth while I was eating. They're eating solid food now, but not the food I go to the trouble to moisten. Two of them will eat canned food, and they'll sometimes eat moistened hard food, but they all like Menchi's hard food. I'm worried they're going to choke. The middle kitten has started using the litter box. I just went to Target and bought a bag of kitten food, which all but the middle kitten ate, and a kitten litter box. It has a short front and a high back. And Menchi just used it. Well, anyway. At least the kittens can wall into and out of it by themselves. The oldest is a very fluffy orange tabby. I think he might be long haired. I named him Bertram Frederick. The middle kitten, Percy Ianto, looks like his mother. The youngest kitten is mostly white, but her head isn't quite wedge-shaped, her fur is softer than Menchi's and Percy's, and she has one black spot and one brown/orange spot on her head. Her name is Gwen Toshiko. My mom and brother have each chosen different names for all the kittens. However, the kittens are staying in my room until they're bigger, and I know how to teach them their names. Ha! I win . . . something, I'm sure. Far better news without any bad side I can see is that I'm finally getting to build myself a new computer. Wait, there is a tiny bad side. I was going to spend my $200 on some dvd sets and Threadless shirts. "Jeeves and Wooster" and "Torchwood" are on sale, and QI series 2 is coming out soon, but those can wait. I'm putting my money towards the computer instead. I bought Scott Mueller's Upgrading and Repairing PCs, and it's already been even more helpful than I expected. I'm looking at cases right now. I know I want one with a large side window, and I'd prefer one in black or black and silver. I might make the case lights green. Ooh, I saw a computer with sort of green and uv lights and wire sleeves and tubes, liquid cooling, I think, that were glowing green. It looked sort of like the insides of an alien or a monster. I might do something like that. Maybe something in red and green, if I can make it look alive rather than xmasy. I'm thinking aluminium, but I'm looking around to see what case material would be best. I'm not sure liquid cooling is in my budget, so a cooler case material, a cpu vent, and at least two decent sized fans should help. I don't think I'll be overclocking or anything, but I want to keep everything running smoothly. Well, I may look into overclocking. Also, I may soon be getting cable internet. I wanted to wait until I found the cheapest, best possible option, but lately I can't stay online for more than an hour at a time. In fact, it's usually more like twenty minutes. This is the third time I've tried to write this journal article. Really, I'd better just post it before I get kicked offline again.
