I read Dear Abby in the paper today and one reader wrote in and asked what Abby thought was the one main problem in the world. Abby in turn then asked her readers what they thought. I found this to be very interesting because i never gave it too much thought before. I always focused on many but not on one single problem. Now obviously one problem isn't the reason for the troubles of all the world. However, each person in the world will focus on his or her own view of what is the biggest problem in the world. This can be a multitude of things....from poverty, war, to religion, to communication, to anything under the sun. I guess what my question is.....what do you view as the biggest problem in the world?
What i view as the biggest problem in the world is the lack of love and caring. It is rather simple really. I am observing at an urban school district so i see many things that could have been avoided with these kids of their parents actually truly cared about them and loved them. These kids have some major discipline problems, health, and mental problems all for the most part stemming from the home. If these kids were just cared for more, had some boundaries, there wouldn't be such problem. Teachers should not be viewed as surrogate parents for these kids. It is not our job to be sure these kids are loved and protected. Our main job is to educate them. Yet, our jobs are becoming more and more like a parents and we are becoming overworked. Teachers are severely underpaid for what they do for these kids, yet no one cares. Again, all we need in this aspect of the world is love. A little love, and a little caring will go a long long way beyond that of the school and the teachers.
What do you think?
