BLOOD OF THE ELVES
Prologue A young elf was standing in the center of a large alter. A small stone cradle under her watchful eyes contained a small baby. The baby began to cry as a man stepped out of the shadows, and threw a dagger at the young maiden. It hit her over the heart, as the baby cried louder. “You will not harm the Goddess!” The maiden used the last of her life force to transport the baby to a different region of the world, the farthest place away from him as she could think of. The man yelled in anger, and stabbed the woman repeatedly with his sword on the side of her chest where the heart was. The woman died with a smirk on her face, covered in her own blood. An entity of light stepped forward from the maiden’s body. “It is you who has lost Dakar; you will pay for all your grievances in time.” And with that the entity disappeared from the chamber leaving a cold chill. …elsewhere… A baby’s cry echoed through the village. Elves stepped out of the trees that they had made their homes, and walked towards the grand alter in the center of the village. The king walked with his own son. The young infant stopped crying as the King picked her up. “It is the reincarnation of the Goddess herself.” The King lifted the baby in front of all the villagers. “All hale the Goddess Marzel!”
Chapter One …123 years later…
The wind howled as the thunder rolled, and lightning bolts struck the forest. A young elf jumped from tree to tree, her long black hair blowing wildly with the force of the wind. Her green robes fluttered madly as she moved against the wind. She positioned her arm in front of her almond shaped green eyes as heavy rain drops clouded her vision. She increased her pace determined to make it to the temple. She grimaced as she tripped off the branch she had jumped on, she quickly twisted and grabbed the branch and began to jump again. An old female elf ran to the balcony of the temple where the black haired maiden had landed. “Elensar, it’s horrible, the water of the underground lake is turning black and we can’t stop it!” Elensar rushed past the old woman, and ran into the temple. Elensar ran down a case of large stone steps jumping over missing steps and ran into a grand chamber. Taking her place at the alter she lifted her arms off of her body and began to chant. A pattern spread across her face and down her arms, all the water from the underground lake flooded into the chamber. Elensar stood in the middle of the grand alter not even flinching when the cold water touched her skin. White strings of magic spread through her finger tips and flowed into the water, making the water ripple with color. Elensar jumped from the water as it drained back out of the chamber, and changed back to crystal clear water. Elensar stood watching the water drain when the Elvin priests, King, and Prince run down the stairs and stop to stare at her. She pretended not to notice them, and continued to watch the water. Elensar only acknowledged their presence when King Alder gave a fake cough that she was to turn to him. Elensar gave the King a half-glare, and continued to watch the water. “Elensar, what happened?” King Alder’s voice was hard as steel, and very cold, but it couldn’t compare to the emptiness of emotion in Elensar’s voice when she put in the effort. “Answer me girl!” Elensar smirk at the King’s impatient. She continued to ignore him, and stepped into what little water remained in the chamber and made her way to the east side of the chamber. She ran her hand over the writing on the wall. “When one should sleep, one dreams. When I sleep, destruction will rain from the heavens. When I sleep you must wake me, for if should sleep, the entire world will be destroyed.” “We seem to have a problem with answering their King today don’t we?” Prince Merck stood for his father’s good name and didn’t take any lip from anyone. Elensar rolled her eyes and continued to translate the wall. “Dakar will not rest until my spirit is completely destroyed; he himself looks for the way to make me disappear forever. Only in the banning together of all Elvin races will Dakar finally be defeated and the world liberated from his rein.” Elensar glared at the sword that had cut off her translation, and then turned her gaze on the Prince who smirked in victory. Elensar rammed his gut causing him to kneel over, she laughed at his weakness. King Alder sighed as he watched his son be hit by a woman, and fall to his knees. Ever since Elensar had been found underneath the grand alter in the center of the village the King had always said to himself that one day his son would wed the girl. “Merck, don’t threaten your superiors, the Goddess could wipe the ground with you if she chose.” The King held back a chuckle as he watched his son try and get off the ground, and Elensar had pushed him back down with her the sole of her boot. “So Elensar what do you think happened to turn the lake water?” “I would think that is has something to do with the storm that’s blown in from the sea…it’s unusual that a storm could move so far inland with out sufficient water to keep it going.” Elensar walked past them up the stairs. She stopped at the top looking into the face of a dark male elf assassin holding the old temple priestess with a blade pressed to her neck. He smirked when he saw Elensar halt at the main floor. “Step forward slowly and maybe I won’t kill the old woman.” The assassin stated calmly as he used his free hand to motion Elensar forward. The priestess cried out to her. “Don’t do it, he’s been here to kill you by orders of Dakar, don’t move there’s a trap on the floor!” The priestess fell to the floor the blade sticking out of her throat. “To bad…I really didn’t have to kill her if she had just kept her mouth shut.” He removed his blade, and started walking towards Elensar. “My name is limerick, and your name is…Elensar correct.” Elensar didn’t answer only merely stared at him as he cleaned his blade and stuck it back into its sheath. Limerick noticed her calmness; he frowned at the fact that she wasn’t afraid of him. “Tell me Elensar, do you really think that a normal elf such as yourself is strong enough to defeat my lord Dakar?” She continued to stare at him, he seethed and looked behind her as the King, and his followers came up the steps. Elensar held up a hand to stop him, noting Merck’s reaction to the threat posed. Merck despite the fact that he and Elensar argued every few minutes would never allow Elensar to fall victim to being in any sort of danger. Merck produced a dagger from the side of his tunic, and threw it at the dark elf. Limerick caught the dagger in between his first two fingers. Elensar took the chance to wrap vines around his ankles; she lifted him up from the ground and swung him around and threw him out the door of the temple into the leachy tree. The leachy tree was a tree that had been in Lyre forest for over a thousand years, the tree had almost died about 500 years ago so to save the tree pixies gave to the tree magic from the pixie tree, and the tree came to life and used movement to protect itself. When they stepped out of the temple the tree had wrapped its branches around Limerick and held him while he struggled to get free. Merck laughed at his attempt to free himself from the tree, while Elensar and King Alder simply watched with amusement. Elensar sent a dagger towards the woods on the left of the tree, and frowned as a human female stepped out of the wooded area with her hands up in defeat. Limerick in the trees arms sighed and stopped struggling, the woman looked away from him in shame. “What would a human be doing traveling with an elf, and a dark elf assassin at that?” Elensar didn’t really need the answer since she already knew, but it was a bit heart breaking to know the truth. Elves and humans weren’t meant to live together; it wasn’t done with the feeble human life. Limerick looked at the woman with a mixed expression, resentment, anger, and slight relief. “What the hell do you think you’re doing following me here?” The woman looked down in shame, but didn’t answer him. Elensar placed her hand on the bark of the tree, telling the tree to let Limerick go. Limerick slid to the ground with out a word, when his feet touched the ground he lunged at the human female and slapped her across the face. “You fool I told you not to follow me here, why didn’t you do as I said!” “Because you wouldn’t have come back as you told me you would, you were going leave me there and return to your home!” The woman looked up from the ground crying, with anger at the fact that Limerick was going to leave her behind. “I don’t care about you being a damn elf, fine whatever, just as long as it doesn’t mean leaving me behind, I love you and don’t you dare say anything otherwise!” “I hate you Laura, and it was nothing more than a fling, a mere distraction of what my job was.” Limerick glared at her in anger. “You’re a human, it would never work, and I’m too old for you, you should find someone of your own race to share your life with, because it sure as hell isn’t going to be me!” Limerick turned stiffly around and walked away from Laura, leaving the girl standing there with a blank expression on her face, as she fell on her knees sobbing.
