You’re disappointed in our opinions? How is this not more condescending than the original ‘Hurly-burly’ comment that was edited out of the announcement! You act as though we are all children having a tantrum because you’ve decided to take away something that belongs to us-our gold.
New systems such as the daily chance have been added; I personally hate the daily chance and hardly ever use it, as it clutters up my inventory with near-unsellable items or junk (paper, bugs, etc) could you not just get rid of these unneeded features that create gold, rather than introducing such a heavy tax?
2% is nothing when it comes to 100g. I’m not an oldbie, I’m only an 05 user. However, through vending and bumping, I’m worth around about 13mil according to tektek. Selling my nitemare scarf would cost over 20k with the new system. A friend of mine who exchanges is a lot more experienced than I am; if he were to sell his d-tail, it would cost him over 200k. How is that comparable to a renewable vending licence? And saying they are not sold on the market place is B.S – there are usually about two tails on at a time. If users selling expensive items stopped using the market place, then we would no longer know the value of certain items, even with the help of tektek.
It may be rediculace to think that admins would respond to every complaint; however, if they begin treating gaia like a business-which they have, by introducing taxation-then why can we not expect the same rights that we would have with a business? In the outside world, if you pay for a service, you expect a certain leval of customer-care and feedback if you find said service lacking; many of us pay money for collectables each month; I myself have been spending around about $20 a month for around about a year and a half, just to help with my quest through buying and selling these letters.
Admins make this sound as if, each of us, whether we spend our money on gaia or not – as none of us want gaia to be a pay site!- despite that we are basically paying for gaia to keep running, have little to no rights when we want to be heard and want further explanations.
I myself have never taken economics formally, however we did study it briefly when we were doing ICT, as well as when we were doing the English and American Industrial Revolutions, as well as the Wallstreet crash, and so I have a fair understanding of the system; any ebay-er really could figure it out if they took a minute or two. To explain it like we are idiots and belittle us within those explanations are unacceptable. Children may use this site, but many adults do as well (as gaia obviously knows, as they seem to be becoming more money-orientated over the brief two and a half years of my life I seem to have wasted on gaia) Why treat us all like idiots?
The 2% isn’t a few hundred people who do not like the new layout; I remember the previous layout-change; it too had negative feedback, but people delt with it. This current layout is awful on my computer (which it really shouldn’t be as my computer uses VISTA and is less than 6 months old with high graphics cards etc); its slow to load, a page streacher and I’m not thrilled with the day-night changing layout. However, like many gaians, I don’t particularly care enough to make a complaint just because the colour isn’t as nice as it used to be, or it’s a little harder to read. However, if there are so many gaians complaining about one not-so-small alteration to the way that gaia runs for most people-the market-then why are you people not listening to us?
‘Yes, we know, but we’re doing it anyway’ seems to be the gist of what you’re doing.
‘If its unpopular or doesn’t work, we can remove it’ It’s already unpopular, we have already put forward many arguments as to why it wont work! You’re not listening to us now, we doubt you will then!
I saw Sagger-AT3 wrote in response to another users sugesstion – “And about raising the NPC store buy- back price: good idea. We have been debating it for a while, and probably will debate it more. One major problem would be that this IS intervention in prices, which we don't really want to do. But it's something we need to study further.”
Is charging a 2% fee not interveaning with prices? Am I getting a hold of the wrong end of the stick here? Or is it just in the store prices-where gaia makes a constant profit with gaia cash, not just monthly with individual letters that we and popularity controals the eventual price of- that really matters?
When admins talk about ‘the number of users complaining is relatively small’ are they looking at the total amount of registered users, or active users? Because there are many mules and abandoned accounts of gaians who have left that I am sure are not complaining. Exchangers hate the 2%. Questers hate the 2%. Literate gaians hate the way that out intelligence in general has been ranked so low in the 2% arguments/ feedback from certain developers/ admins. Everyone is starting to get more than a little pissed that we are receiving little to no response or feedback to our worries and complaints.
Out of the active users on gaia, would it not be a good idea to have a poll for the 2% implementation – Yes, No, I couldn’t care less; It’s simple to see its popularity that way.
Meh. I doubt anyone will read this, let alone respond. No matter. I am sure many more gaians will express the same or similar views in a much more articulate way, and will still be ignored reguardless.
Ladyshi
(Yet another gaian who will refuse to buy MC’s and use the market should the 2% come into play & stay)

^^; I know you don't know me, but I was in the Exchange and stumbled across your profile. xD Then I found this journal entry.
I've been on Gaia for a fairly long time. (Just one year before you, 2004.) And even back then, the Admins weren't really there. There weren't as many people on Gaia back then, but even so, a lot of Admins didn't do much of anything. It has always been like this, but reading your journal entry infuriates me even more and makes me see things in a different light.
We as Gaian's DO have rights. Most of us are paying Gaiaonline our own money for collectibles and other items in the stores. ...We are paying this site our money. And yet they think they have the right to take away OUR rights? The admins shouldn't be disappointed in us for thinking these things - Because the truth is they DON'T care. If this website cared about our opinions, this 2% Tax wouldn't have been forced upon us.
The full effect of this 2% Tax is roundhouse kicking me in the face. When the news of it first was released I was upset but I didn't realize that things would inflate so horribly. Now it's hard to buy those MC's that I've been saving my gold up for, because they are about 3x higher in price. Chyaku Norisu scarfs were already about like.. 50k-70k. Now they are nearly 104k. Everything, including smaller MC's like the Western Zodiac, have raised in price so much that you try to avoid buying them unless they go for really cheap to make a small profit.
As for the layout, I have a relatively fast computer. So the layout loads like a breeze. However, the resolution is 1024x700 something. I have a 1280x1024 resolution screen. It is stretched. Why haven't they created a layout that accommodates everyone's needs? It seems like there is this sort of "power trip" being played behind the scenes here. Rather than trying to think of everyone, they just stick us with a layout and pretty much tell us to get over it. Now that I think about it, that 2% tax thing...yeah I should have seen that coming. They've been pulling these stunts already, it seems.
Since 2005, I've seen this website take a huge plunge into the ground. It's actually pretty sad. Gaia isn't a business, like you stated in your Journal. It is a (SHOULD be) user-friendly website. But now it isn't. They were the ones that created Inflation. In fact a lot of their "pro-inflation" banners and images are still in the Marketplace, and the collectibles/buying/store page. So why are they complaining about something that they created? I'd think that'd be kind of contradictory of them to point the finger at us for complaining, when aren't they doing the same thing? Even if they hadn't created the inflation and actually advertised it, inflation would have come naturally. NATURALLY, older items would cost more...because they are older. Simple logic. Why are they trying to even something like that out? It just won't work.
I think Lanzer fell and bumped his head a little TOO hard. One second he's for the people, and then the next he's acting like this. Like he is money hungry and wants his website to be the biggest on the web - and that's it. I will admit; gaiaonline is my addiction, and even though the Exchange is overpriced I still attempt to make profits and buy/sell items; but this has gone way too far. I never thought of actually quitting Gaia, even after my main account was banned wrongly and I was worth so much, but now I'm actually considering it. I know a lot of older users like me have done and thought the same, and that saddens me.
You brought up a lot of good points in your journal m'dear. :3 Nice to know someone else thinks like me! xD heart
