Lokewen fell to her knees once they were far enough. She hid her face in her hands, her blone hair falling around her face. Dinin watched her slowly.
"Why? Why him?" She cried. Dinin looked at her sadly. He put his hand on her head, having no idea why. She embraced his touch. She saw it as comforting. She knew she wasn't alone, like she was so many times. She looked up at Dinin with tear swollen eyes and her lip began to tremble again.
Before he could stop himself, he fell to his knees and embraced her. She fell limp in his arms. He suddenly realized what he was doing and immediately his arms flew away and he sprang to his feet, retreating to a tree as fast as he could without looking embarrassed.
She giggled at his reaction. This dark elf was really different than the tree elves. She wondered if most dark elves were.
Suddenly, Killisar appeared in the clearing. He looked at Lokewen and frowned, then looked over and saw Dinin. He smirked.
"Wow Dinin, you got over Menzoberranzan fast." He mocked. Dinin spun around and saw Killisar. He clenched his fist furiously. Lokewen looked at Killisar and gasped.
"Another one..." She murmured. She sprang to her feet and wondered if she should run or stay put. Dinin didn't seem to like this one, so maybe she shouldn't either. But why didn't he like this intruder?
Suddenly, she realized the dark elf had said his name. And his name struck horror into her.
"Dinin? Dinin Do'Urden?" She gasped. His head jerked to her and frowned threateningly.
"What about it?" He asked furiously. She clasped her hand over her mouth and spun around to run off but he suddenly had her wrist and wrenching her around. "What about it?" He repeated angrily. She stared at his eyes and immediately saw different eyes that she had been seeing for the passed week.
"You... You were the one that.... You killed... you killed them... thousands...." She stuttered with fear. He looked into her eyes and saw the gentleness was gone and it was replaced with horror and fury. He didn't like it. He let go of her wrist.
"I have killed thousands. Many dark elves have." He stated, forgetting about Killisar who seemed to be enjoying this.
"No. You killed my village. You and your dark elves killed us all. I was the only one that escaped." She looked at Killisar and her mind suddenly clicked. "He... He helped me..." She whispered. Dinin looked back at Killisar.
"Killisar?" He growled. She looked at Killisar and smiled.
"Yes. He hid me until everyone was gone." She said. Killisar seemed to be recognizing her too. He smiled.
"I remember you now." Killisar smiled. "I was afraid you didn't make it." He said with relief.
"Killisar, I should kill you for such betrayel." Dinin growled. "But I don't care anymore, luckily for you." He said firmly. "I'm leaving. Since you guys seem to like each other, Killisar, you stay with her."
"What-?"
"Go." He said as he kicked Killisar's ankles, sending Killisar onto his back. Killisar glared up at his older brother and suddenly threw a dagger at him. Dinin put his hand behind his back and caught it between his fingers, then flung it back, it hitting right beside Killisar's head.
Dinin disappeared into the trees. As soon as he was out of sight, he raced toward Menzoberranzan desperately. The illnesses were getting worse and he didn't know which one would come next. He saw the hole up ahead and he ran to it at top speed.
He fell down at the side and looked over the whole. He stepped down onto the rock and immediately was healed. He sighed in relief and sat down on the stone. He felt his mouth and throat heal and he smiled weakly. He looked at his home, which was reduced to rubble, and frowned. He surveyed the massive dead city and sighed.
He thought that he didn't care, but truth be told... he did. He missed the life he had grown up in, no matter how terrible it had been. He remembered the times Briza and him went to find Killisar, and Dinin had gotten his butt kicked. But that was a long time ago, and Dinin was much stronger. Much more stronger than his younger brother. He put his chin in one hand and propped his elbow on top of his knee. He looked around with a sigh.
"Don't think you can just drop some girl on me, Dinin. I have things to do ya know?" Killisar's voice asked from behind him. Dinin cursed angrily and looked up at his brother.
"Well, unless she wants to stay here with me, I guess she'll have to roam alone." Dinin answered. Killisar frowned.
"You want to stay here?" He asked.
"You know full well that I have to, Killisar." Dinin growled. He kicked some rubble down and watched it fall down the massive pile. Lokewen finally caught up with Killisar and looked down. She gasped.
"It's..." She began sadly. Killisar looked at her. "It's dead. It was really destroyed. I didn't believe Dinin at first, but... It really was." She whimpered. She didn't know if she should be happy or sad. But she felt bad for Dinin and Killisar, even though Killisar seemed happy about it.
But even though Killisar seemed happy about it, he felt the same way Dinin did. He was furious at the dragons.
Dinin sighed and stood up. But as soon as his head was out of out the hole he fell down again and spat out blood. He punched the rubble under him and cursed. He was suddenly running down the pile of rubble at amazing speed. He slipped and skidded half way down but immediately caught his balance and jumped off onto the ground. He ran toward the Do'Urden house. Killisar watched, then ran after him, at the same speed. Lokewen wondered if she should too, but her curiousity got the better of her and she sped off after them.
Dinin threw off rubble and kicked aside wood. He tore off bricks and stone and immediately saw the door that led to the throne room. He stood staring at it for a moment, then pushed it open and walked in. He looked around, half expecting to see Briza glaring at him and about to attack him. All he saw was blood and lots of fallen rubble. He sighed in half relief and half sorrow. He walked down the middle of the room between the pillars. This was the only room standing, ironically. He saw his mother in a bloody mess on the throne. He gripped his sword and walked toward her. He walked up the stairs calmly and stood in front of her.
He smiled at her and kneeled in mock respect. He stared into her dead eyes and suddenly grabbed her neck as if to strangle her. He dug his nails into her throat, new blood coming out. He smiled as her blood covered his hand. He suddenly slammed her head back into the back of the throne.
He pulled her dead body from the throne and threw her into the side wall. As she hit the wall, Killisar ran in. He saw what Dinin was doing and frowned, confused. Dinin raised his sword and dove it into her skull. He didn't want to stay in this cursed place! He wanted to leave! But this dead woman wouldn't let him! Even in death, she haunted him!
He kicked her against the wall, wrenching his sword free. He looked around angrily and saw Killisar. This boy was the only family he had left, and he wasn't sure if he should be happy about that, or be furious. He looked around. Where was Briza's body? She should have been here. Unless the dragon ate her. He smiled as this scene flashed through his head. He would have liked to kill the sister himself, but being eaten alive by a dragon was somewhat satisfying.
His eyes fell on Lokewen as she ran into the dark room, blind. She could see hardly anything. She gripped Killisar's arm to make sure she wouldn't wander off and get lost in the darkness. He walked toward them. He stared at Killisar as he passed them.
He was satisfied now. He would leave this place, and if he died, he died. He would be tortured by his family in the after life. That was all there was to it. He walked effortlessly up the steep pile of rubble and into the burning sun. He felt sick to his stomach and his head ached painfully, and his throat was swelling up. But his face showed no sign of any of this as he walked through the grass.
His hand drifted up to his throat. He could barely breath. He would die if he stayed on the surface. Fear grasped his heart. He didn't want to die. He looked around, trying to calm down.
"Dinin... you're sick." Lokewen murmured. He looked at her.
"Thank you, Ms. Obvious." He growled through a strained throat.
"Can..." She began, afraid of how he was going to react. "Can I heal you?" She whispered. He looked at her, he didn't like it, but he was desperate.
He slowly nodded. She quickly put her hands on his and began to chant.
The familiar lights illuminated the area around them, mixing with the sunlight. He gasped in pain as his magic fought against hers, making his stomach turn in somersaults. He cried out, his head jerking back against the grass.
Slowly, the lights began to die down and so did his pain. He slowly sucked in breath. He could breathe! He looked at her for a moment, then sat up fully, resting his arm on his propped up knee. He looked down, ashamed that he needed help from a girl that had betrayed him. He sighed, happy that he was alive for once.
She smiled at him. "Did it work? Do you feel better?" She asked. He waited a moment, then nodded slowly again. She smiled wider. "Thank goodness." Killisar was watching from afar. He frowned, wondering what was wrong with his brother. He had been out on a search party when the curses had been placed.
He wasn't particularly worried about his brother, but there was some reassurance that there were more like him in the world.
Dinin stood up and looked around.
"I guess... I have to bring you with me, Lokewen. So that you can heal me again if it acts up." He said sheepishly. She smiled.
"Okay." She said in a whisper.
He sighed, angry. He turned and walked in a direction he had just decided to walk. He heard Lokewen follow him, but Killisar stayed where he was. He was not about to follow his enemy brother. Not in a million years. But suddenly, his feet began to move toward him. He cursed and tried to fight against it when he realized it was his brother's magic. He cursed again.
"Dang it, let me go!" He yelled angrily. Dinin just smirked as he kept dragging his brother along, making his feet walk casually after them.
"Dont' be too loud, Killisar. Or you'll attract unwanted attention." He scolded.
"Dang it! Dinin, let me go!" He screamed as he tried to think of a counter spell. Lokewen was giggling at Dinin's sedistic sense of humor. "Let me go!!!" Killisar cried desperately.
Dinin looked back at him with a smirk.
"Now now, Killisar. I might need your help building what I have in mind." He said nagotiavily, though making the point that he's not giving Kill much of a choice.
"Darn it, Brother! I should kill you now!" He yelled angrily as he drove his swords into the ground and tried to pull against the magic but it wasn't doing any good.
"Come now, Killisar. Don't be like that." He said mockingly. Killisar cursed and pulled his swords out, giving up on that.
He immediately threw a dagger at Dinin angrily. Dinin dodged it quickly and looked at Killisar with a smirk.
"You'll have to do way beter than that." He said.
Killisar glared at Dinin furiously with his hatred for his drow brother pouring down on his older brother, but Dinin just smiled.
"Let me go! I've got my own darned plans!" He yelled finally.
"Shut up." Dinin growled as he turned around and walked away.
Killisar looked at Lokewen for help, who was still giggling.
"Aren't you just tons of help." He muttered angrily. "Come on, Dinin! Let me go!" He pleaded.
Dinin was enjoying every minute of this.
